MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A trilogy, as we all know, comes in three’s, but usually in a series with intervals in between. Not so, and only in the Philippines.
Today, March 1, 2023, history is made (and possibly a Guinness World Record).
Three films about the Marcos family are showing simultaneously in theaters nationwide!
Uniquely historical as well is the fact that the trilogy has three different movie productions, film directors and actors, not to mention three different biases!
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Darryl Yap’s latest film, “Martyr or Murderer” (following the highly successful “Maid In Malacañang”) is the second of a trilogy — the third being “Mabuhay Aloha Mabuhay” (MaM).
Well, his self-proclaimed rival, Vince Tañada, will not be left behind. After his flop films “Katips” and “Ako Si Ninoy,” he has announced the filming of the third of his own trilogy. It is titled “EDSA By Golly Wow,” which chronicles the events leading up to the 1986 People Power Revolution in the Philippines.
When at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The planned seven-day strike by various transport groups in Metro Manila that begins March 6 may have been averted, thanks to a compromise agreement between the strikers and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). The strike was meant to contest the impending phaseout of traditional jeepneys.
Many operators and drivers insist that upgrading to modern jeepneys would be a very heavy burden in terms of the cost to replace their dilapidated vehicles.
As a compromise, LTFRB will now allow transport groups to replace the old jeepneys with the jeepito — a tinier version of the public utility vehicle which would be much more affordable than the modernized, bus-like jeepneys.
LTFRB and the operators agree that the jeepito will also preserve the iconic look of the traditional jeepney which has become an admired Philippine symbol.
