A Case Of Mistaken Identity Or A Case Of Being ‘Shunga?’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The self-proclaimed elitist U.P. law graduate Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon who calls her detractors ‘shunga’ (idiots), is getting a dose of her own vaccine.

In a recent Twitter post, she asked her followers where she could procure Covid-19 vaccine doses for her driver and staff knowing pretty well that buying or selling them is illegal under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) status.

One of those who called her out for her tweet was ABS-CBN executive Mark Lopez.

Right away, Guanzon, in a follow up tweet, called the ABS-CBN official ‘elitist rich boy’ and asked him to ‘shut up.’

EXCEPT that the Mark Lopez who criticized her was not the ABS-CBN top executive, but Mark Lopez, the DDS blogger and social media influencer.

A case of mistaken identity, or a case of being ‘shunga?’

Pia Wurtzbach To Sue TV5 For Libel!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach was starting to get hate mail because News TV5 posted a quote card linking her to a comment suggesting that Vice President Leni Robredo be crowned Miss Universe. Robredo issued a statement about her idea of what makes a strong woman. Many supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte were not happy with that comment.

But then, TV5 issued an erratum, saying that the quote should have been attributed to Bianco Guidotti, another former beauty queen.

But it was too late. Wurtzbach said the damage has been done. So she is suing TV5 for libel.

Moral of the story: fact check, fact check, fact check.

GMA7: Our News Is Not Circumcised!

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Like most radio and television networks and stations in the Philippines, GMA 7 is filled with memes that describe their news gathering or reporting. Others use sound effects when delivering their news.

The defunct ABS-CBN called their followers “Kapamilya” or “family member.” GMA calls them “Kapuso” or “one in heart.” At Bombo Radyo, each news is literally followed by the beating of the drum.

Back to GMA. They like to describe their news as “walang kinikilingan, walang pinoprotektahan,” (not biased, no cover-ups). They just added a new meme, “hindi natutuli ang balita,” (the news is not circumcised), a take off from their original “hindi natutulog ang balita” (news doesn’t sleep).

The Adobo Chronicles spoke with newsreader Vicky Morales who debuted the new meme in a recent GMA7 newscast. She explained that she did not commit a blooper, and that she really meant what she said.

“Our news is not circumcised, meaning we do not cut or censor our news to favor anyone.”

Makes sense, Vicky, the scissorhands!
