MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Like many tropical countries, the Philippines has all but two seasons, the wet and dry seasons. No four seasons like the rest of planet Earth.
But blame it on climate change, winter has arrived in the country. No need to look very far than the set of CNN Philippines ‘Newsnight,’ where news reader Pia Hontiveros was seen on January 18 shivering in the cold. Luckily, the producers of the show were able to quickly install a fireplace to warm the studio.
Expect activist Greta Thunberg to start citing this Philippine phenomenon to argue for the urgent need to address climate change.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines holds the rare distinction of being the world’s leader when it comes to Covid-19 vaccines.
While many countries, including the U.S., U.K., Singapore, United Arab Emirates and others are now just beginning to issue Emergency Use Authorizations (EUE) and rolling out the vaccines to their populations, the Philippines is already holding Congressional hearings. No other country is doing this courageous and heroic effort by the Filipino Representatives and Senators to ensure the health and safety of their constituents.
NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – New York’s City Council is proposing the rename Fifth Avenue to Pres. Barack Obama H. Avenue.
Fifty Avenue is where the Trump Towers in Midtown Manhattan is located.
Sources close to New York City Hall tell The Adobo Chronicles that a resolution for the name change is being readied to be filed and discussed at 12:01 on January 20, when Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that if passed, he will sign the resolution.
After all, there is no love lost between Trump and Obama.
