Senator Franklin Drilon Proposes Cheap, Indigenous SEA Games Medals

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  Opposition Senator Franklin Drilon is not stopping with his criticism of government expenses in connection with the Philippines’ hosting of the South East Asian Games.

Drilon had earlier criticized the P50 Million cauldron that has been built as part of the SEA Games ceremonies.

Today, the Senator unveiled his personal design for the SEA Games medals that will be awarded during the international sports events. He says the design is not only cheap but also represents a Philippine indigenous product — that of the world-famous woodcarving of spoon and fork which is a typical wall decor found in many traditional Filipino homes.

What a nationalisic Senator. And frugal.

Senate President Tito Sotto To Filipino LGBTs: You Are Deadly Sinners

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Senate President Tito Sotto can’t seem to hide his beef with members of the LGBT community.

During Senate deliberations on the SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression) bill, he pointed out that gay men will never become women because they do not have ovaries and will not be able to reproduce.

Now, Sotto is calling members of the LGBT community “deadly sinners.”

On Tuesday, Sotto called the attention of the Department of Education (DepEd) after one of its regional offices issued a memo calling for the implementation and inclusion in the school calendar the observance & celebration of LGBT Pride every month of June.

The Showbiz personality-turned-Senator said that pride is still one of the “7 Deadly Sins,” as per Christian faith and tradition.

Ergo, those who celebrate PRIDE are deadly sinners.

Sotto’s comment didn’t sit well with many Filipino nationalists who questioned: “So those of us who take pride in being Pinoy are sinners? So everyone should stop using the phrase ‘Pinoy Pride’ ?”

Meanwhile, Filipino world champion boxer and Senator Manny Pacquiao challenged Sotto to a boxing match for his uncalled for comment.  Pacquiao is often referred to as the “Pride of the Philippines.”

Philippine Vice President Robredo Wants To Meet With U.S. State Department Official Mina Chang

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Despite being scolded by Rodrigo Duterte on national TV last night, Vice President Leni Robredo says she wants to meet with just-resigned U.S. State Department official Mina Chang.

(Duterte took Robredo to task for using her Drug Czar designation to meet with foreign agencies and officials,  The Vice President was earlier chided for possibly sharing state secrets with foreigners.)

Chang resigned her post amid allegations that she inflated her resume.  She was even accused of spreading photos of her on the cover of Time magazine.

A spokesperson for the Office of the Vice President (OVP) told The Adobo Chronicles that Robredo feels that Chang can empathize with her since both of them are being accused of fakery.  Many Opposition critics have called Robredo “fake VP.”

”Besides, I think it would be good to seek the advice of a fellow woman lke Chang,” Robredo said.
