Leni Robredo Asks: Why Is There No Vice Presidential Summer Residence In Baguio?

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – Those who live  in or have visited Baguio know that there is a sprawling Presidential Summer Residence in the City — The Mansion House.  But no VP House.

In anticipation of continuing her reign — albeit questionable — as the country’s Vice President for another three years, Leni Robredo is now asking why she has no summer residence to go to in Baguio.

“I’m a heartbeat away from the Presidency, yet I am not afforded the same perks as the President,” she told The Adobo Chronicles.

Upon hearing of Robredo’s complaint, the Baguio City Council approved a resolution for the immediate purchase of a portable home for the Vice President, to be set up on Mt. Santo Tomas, the highest mountain peak in the city.

EDSA Traffic: From Choke Points To Checkpoints

MANILA, Philippines — A study by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) has so far uncovered more than 300 traffic choke points in Metro Manila, according to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Danilo Lim. He urged the Senate Committee on Public Services to focus on these chokepoints in coming up with a long-lasting solution to the traffic nightmare on EDSA and other major thoroughfares.

In response, committee chair Senator Grace Poe proposed an innovative plan that would turn these choke points into check points.

Under Poe’s plan, giant television screens will be erected in each of the chokepoints to keep motorists entertained while stuck in these bottleneck areas. “That way, commuters’ anger and frustration will be kept ‘in check,’” the Senator said.

Poe then asked the major television networks to nominate shows or teleseryes that would be shown on these giant TV screens during heavy commute hours — for a fee of course.

Immediately, ABS-CBN nominated ‘Ang Probonsiyano’ as its  contribution to these checkpoints.

The Senate committee still needs to hear from the other TV networks.

Why Philippines’ Central Bank Is Issuing P20 In Coins

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Starting in the last quarter this year, the Central Bank of the Philippines (CBP) is expected to issue a coin version of the twenty peso bill.

Officially, CBP is saying that the move will extend the denomination’s shelf life. The paper bill usually lasts for just a about a year before it succumbs to wear and tear. The coin, on the other hand, can last between 10 and 15 years.

Unofficially, a CPB spokesperson told The Adobo Chronicles the real purpose for the coins is to help Filipinos save more money. “Coins will encourage people to deposit into their piggy banks,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte supports the move, saying it complements his “Build, Build, Build” program.  He’s calling the coin issuance “Ipon, Ipon, Ipon.”
