MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – She violated the law and the conditions of her temporary stay in the Philippines. Now, she is using the law to avoid deportation.
Sr. Patricia Fox, a 71-year-old Missionary nun was ordered deported after violating Philippine immigration law that prohibits foreign visitors from participating in political activity while in the country. She was supposed to have left on May 25 but the timeline was extended to June 18.
But Fox is not waiting for June 18. She practically avoided immediate deportation by marrying a 35-year-old Filipino priest. That marriage entitles her to apply for Filipino citizenship after 5 years — that is, when she turns 76.
The Adobo Chronicles could not verify if the Filipino priest had left the ministry. But we think so since Catholic priests are not allowed to marry. We also don’t know if this was a case of love at first sight.
