LOS ANGELES, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Los Angeles Bureau) – After a series of immigration raids across Southern California last week, social media has been buzzing about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) checkpoints in Van Nuys.
From Friday through Monday, there were multiple reports on Twitter urging users to “spread the word” about an undocumented immigrant checkpoint at Van Nuys Boulevard and Oxnard Street.
Similar Twitter and Facebook warnings were posted about ICE checkpoints in Northern California, like one at the Richmond Costco.
But ICE officials said there were no checkpoints.
“Our agency doesn’t utilize them,” said ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice on Monday.
The Adobo Chronicles can now confirm that the only ICE presence we found at Costco were one-pound and five-pound bags of ice in the freezer section.
They’re also available at all 7-Eleven stores.
