Senator Manny Pacquiao’s First Bill: Make Davao City The New Philippine Capital

Senator Pacquiao is now wide awake!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In advance of the opening of the 17th Philippine Congress on July 25, senators and congressmen are trying to outdo each other by filing their respective signature bills.

So far, senators and congressmen have filed bills ranging from giving President Rod Duterte emergency powers to deal with Metro Manila’s traffic woes to calling for a constitutional convention to consider the proposal for federalism.

Well, the No. 1 absentee congressman, now Senator Manny Pacquiao is out to prove that he is serious about being a national legislator. He has filed his first senate bill.

In a yet unnumbered bill, Pacquiao is proposing to change the capital of the Philippines from Manila to Davao City.

The champion boxer told The Adobo Chronicles  that since Duterte has chosen to establish a Malacañang (presidential palace) of the south in his hometown of Davao City, it just makes sense to also move the Philippine capital to Mindanao.  Duterte is the first-ever Philippine president from Mindanao.  “Besides,” Pacquiao said, “Manila is already too crowded and polluted and we need a capital that we can all be proud of — clean, peaceful and far from the madding crowd.”

Asked what his second bill might be, Pacquiao said he will also propose to change the Philippines’ national language from Pilipino (tagalog) to his and Duterte’s native Cebuano.

It’s going to be a very busy year for Senator Pacquiao. Or so it seems.

First It Was Jesus, Then Marilyn Monroe Seen Behind Philippine President Duterte

Top photo:  image of Marilyn Monroe; bottom: image of Jesus Christ?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Photos and videos of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s inauguration speech on June 30 have baffled many Filipinos.  And we’re talking about the image of Jesus Christ that seemed to have appeared behind Duterte, against the backdrop of the Philippine flag.

Now, Filipinos are starting to realize that on that same day,  when a different image manifested itself again on the Philippine flag behind the president.  This time it was the image of Marilyn Monroe.

Is this a Divine Providence message of the new president’s dual persona?  Sinner and Saint?

We’ll let our readers make their own conclusions!

Too Close To Call: Australians Vote To Join EU

image.gifSYDNEY, Australia (The Adobo Chronicles, Honolulu Bureau) – While most of the world’s attention is currently on the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union, Australians have trooped to the polls to decide whether or not their country should join the EU.

As of press time, the vote is too close to call.

Those advocating for a ‘yes’ vote believe that while Australia is too far away from Europe, it shares many more of European traits and politics than it does with those of its Pacific neighbors. They also believe that with the UK leaving EU, the 28-nation alliance needs another English-speaking member, albeit with a much better accent than Great Britain.

The “no” supporters maintain that Australia will have better political, economic and cultural progress if it remains unattached to Europe.

If the “yes” votes prevail and Australia will be formally accepted into the EU, the country will change its official name to Eustralia.
