Philippine President-Elect Rod Duterte Refuses To Live In Presidential Palace, Here’s Why

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – President-elect Rodrigo Duterte may be tough as hell, but like any human being, he has a soft spot — he is afraid of ghosts.

It is precisely this fear of spirits roaming the earth — and roaming Malacañang —  that Duterte has said that he will not live in the presidential palace in Manila.  Instead, he says he will commute back and forth to Davao City which he intends to make the new seat of government.

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, the mayor said that Malacañang is worse than a haunted house. He added: “Think of all the dead presidents that have lived therein. How can I perform my presidential duties when I’m constantly being watched by these spirits?”

Duterte says he is planning to auction off the presidential palace to the highest bidder, adding that it would make for a great museum and tourist attraction like San Jose’s (California) Winchester Mystery House and Baguio City’s Laperal (White) House.

It is also rumored that Duterte is considering auctioning off Baguio’s Mansion House, the summer residence of the Philippine president.

Any takers?

Manny Pacquiao Plans To Submit Absence Excuse Letter To Philippine Senate

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Fans of Manny Pacquiao may have a chance to see their Filipino boxing idol fight in the ring one more time — at the 2016 Summer Olympics to be held this August in Rio de Janeiro.

Negotiations are underway for Pacquiao, who was just elected senator in his country, to join the Philippine delegation to the Rio games. It could be the only path for the Philippines to win a gold medal.

As Pacquiao mulls his participation in the Olympics, he told The Adobo Chronicles that he is planning to submit an absent excuse letter to the Senate to cover the time he will be in Rio for the Olympics.

The senator-elect was among the top absentees in the Philippine House of Representatives where he sat as a congressman representing his home province of Sarangani.

Now we know why Pacquiao recently said that he cannot promise the Filipino voters that he will have a perfect attendance during his term as senator.

It all makes sense now.

HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Los Angeles Bureau) – Eat your heart out, Mississippi, North Carolina, and other states and cities with or mulling about anti-transgender laws.  ‘Star Trek Beyond’ has a response. A big response!

Directed by Justin Lin (‘Fast and Furious’), the latest in the Star Trek saga features not only new actors playing traditional roles, but also a new transgender character. (We can’t reveal the name of the new character or the actor playing the role — as yet).

This revelation comes in the midst of recent claims of the ‘whitewashing’ of Hollywood films: the lack of African American roles or the continuing phenomenon of white actors playing Asian characters.

“It’s a victory for the transgender community,” said a spokesperson for the Transgender Law Center in the San Francisco Bay Area, “it’s about time.”

It wasn’t clear as of press time whether the transgender character will be played by a transgender actor.

The Adobo Chronicles tried to reach legislators in Mississippi and North Carolina who, we understand, are all avid Star Trek fans, to get their comments on this earth-shattering announcement from Paramount Pictures. We have not received a response.
