BREAKING NEWS: JEREMY LIN QUITS THE LAKERS

imageLos Angeles, Caljfornia (The Adobo Chronicles) – Basketball fan or not, everyone is familiar with Jeremy Lin, the first American of Taiwanese descent to make it and make it big in the NBA. He has even contributed a new word in Webster’s dictionary – Linsanity.

Lin first became popular when he unexpectedly led a winning turnaround with the New York Knicks in the 2012 basketball season. He then moved on to the Houston Rockets before the Lakers acquired him in a trade.

But today, Lin shocked the basketball world by announcing that he was quitting the Lakers.

He has chosen a different career, that of actor and comedian.

Many will recall that Lin recently successfully pulled off the wax statue prank on Madame Tussaud’s museum goers. He apparently enjoyed his comedic stint that he did it again while visiting Taiwan. This time, he posed as an employee of a flagship Adidas store. Wearing a wig and glasses, and speaking in Taiwanese, he fooled customers by convincing them to buy Adidas shoes and shirts. No one knew he was the famous basketball star.

Soon after the Adidas store prank, a Taiwanese television network offered him a job and a three-year contract to do a syndicated comedy show, something that Lin could not resist. He immediately called Lakers president Jeanie Buss and tendered his resignation from the team.

Buss refused to give a statement as she was still processing Lin’s decision.

It’s Linsanity all over again.

Hollywood, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger’s new look has kept the media and gossip circles abuzz.

Zellweger, 45, looked gorgeous when she stepped out at the Elle’s 21st Annual Women In Hollywood Awards last October 20, and everyone immediately noticed that her signature plump cheeks were gone and her eyes seemed much more open.  She almost looked unrecognizable, and many on social media have speculated that perhaps she had a face lift.

The Hollywood star is best known for her award-winning performances as Ruby Thewes in Cold Mountain, and as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago.

Replying to naysayers, Zellweger says she does not understand what the big deal is with her new, happy look. “I think it smacks of sexism,” she said.  “How come we didn’t hear a word when actor Brad Pitt had his face lift, not once or twice but multiple times? He was even critically acclaimed when he did it.”

Zellweger, of course, was referring to Pitt’s role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in which he transformed his appearance in several stages as he aged backwards.

IN SAN FRANCISCO’S GAY CASTRO DISTRICT, HALLOWEEN COMES A DAY EARLY

imageSan Francisco, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For several years now, San Francisco has not seen a Halloween street celebration in the gay Castro district. The annual event has been shut down due to stabbing and other incidents that have marred the otherwise peaceful and fabulous showcase of LGBT tricks and treats. But San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener found a way to get around it.

On October 30, the eve of Halloween, Castro Street will be closed to make way for a made-up community celebration : the ribbon cutting of the Castro Street Improvement Project. Others are calling it a celebration of months and months of disruptive deconstruction and construction. The project involved the widening of the sidewalks, the narrowing of the street, the installation of typo-ridden memorial plaques and the much-ballyhooed painting of rainbow-colored crosswalks.

Inside sources however confirmed that the celebration is really meant to restore the Halloween street party in the Castro, albeit a day early. “Everyone knows the Castro queens will come in their Halloween costumes,” the sources said.

So it’s party time. Come celebrate the return of Halloween in the Castro.  But hush. We’re calling it  a ribbon-cutting. Booo!
