San Francisco, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – With almost 700 Million users worldwide, Twitter is fast  approaching maximum capacity and has just announced new rules for its popular instant messaging network.

Twitter users will now be limited to 139 charcters per tweet, down from 140 characters, according to CEO Dick Costolo. “We understand this may upset our loyal account holders, but we are left with no choice but to try to explore all avenues to prevent our network from an overload,” he told reporters at a press conference held at the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco.

Costolo explained that reducing the chatacter limit will save the company 700 million characters per tweet, enough to prevent what could be a devastating network computer crash.

Twitter account holders will soon receive an email announcing the change, along with some suggestions on how to best deal with the new character reduction policy. Suggestions include using single instead of double exclamation points (!!) and question marks (??) in tweets, or eliminating the period (.) from the words Mr and Mrs

Costolo is confident that it will not take long before account holders will get used to the new character limit. “As soon as we complete expansion work on our network capacity, we will restore the 140 chatacter limit,” he said.

TWITTER SETS IPO PRICE

imageSan Francisco, California – With a 112-character tweet, Twitter announced that it filed for an initial public offering, setting the stage for the most high-profile technology stock market debut since Facebook’s troubled share sale last year.

Twitter announced the filing on its own social media messaging service, saying: “We’ve confidentially submitted an S-1 to the SEC for a planned IPO. This Tweet does not constitute an offer of any securities for sale.”

While it dubbed its filing as “confidential,” Twitter had no problems revealing to The Adobo Chronicles  the price per share with which it plans to  trade its stocks. Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said that the company has decided to trade at $140 per share, almost four times that of Facebook’s IPO price.

“We want to set the bar at the highest level possible,” Costolo said, just like it is company policy to set the bar high in terms of consistency.”  He added, “The $140 per share price is consistent with the foundation of Twitter which is its 140- word count limit for tweets.”

“TWIT” OR ‘TWERK” NO LONGER THE QUESTION

photoSan Francisco, California –  Ah, the power of television!  Just a couple of days after that much-talked about performance by former Disney singing star Miley Cyrus at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), the word, “twerk” has gotten everyone to go berzerk. The performance featured Cyrus stripping down to flesh-colored bikinis and doing the twerk moves, best described as “the rhythmic gyrating of the lower fleshy extremities in a lascivious manner with the intent to elicit sexual arousal or laughter.”

The word has just been added by Britain’s Oxford Dictionary, lending legitimacy to this urban lexicon.  Although “twerk” has been around for years, Oxford Dictionary didn’t decide to add the word until Miley “twerked” all over singer Robin Thicke’s man muscle at the VMAs.

In another unintended consequence of Miley’s performance, Twitter, the San Francisco-based online social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, has decided on changing its name to “Twerker.” Twitter CEO Dick Costolo told The Adobo Chronicles that the company has been rethinking its name for quite some time now.  “People get confused on when to use “tweet” and “twit,” as they do when referring to the company name – “Twitter” or “Tweeter,” Costolo said.

Costolo said that seeing Cyrus perform at the VMAs, and the millions of tweets that followed her controversial performance helped convince Twitter to change  its name. “From hereon, there will be no more confusion among twitters, I mean tweeters,” Costolo pointed out. “Everybody will now be using one and the same term, “Twerk.”
