MANILA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LOSES TOP SPOT: PRESIDENT AQUINO VERY DISAPPOINTED

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino has expressed extreme disappoinment that Manila’s International Airport has lost its distinction as the worst airport in the world.

With the expanded operations of a third terminal, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is no longer the world’s worst airport, sliding to fourth spot after topping the list for the past three years, according to a survey conducted by “The Guide to Sleeping in Airports” on http://www.sleepinginairports.net.

Islamabad Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Pakistan has moved up to the top spot as the world’s worst airport, followed by Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia and Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal.

The survey was conducted between September 2013 and August 2014.

“It breaks my heart that the airport named in my father’s honor has lost its top world distinction,” Aquino said, adding that “my administration will do all it can to gain back the top spot.”

Aquino directed the Philippine Department of Tourism, the Manila Airport Authority, Bureau of Immigration and Bureau of Customs to work closer together and come up with a six-month strategic plan to put NAIA back to Number One.

PRESIDENT AQUINO WANTS MANILA’S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RENAMED

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Manila’s International Airport is named after his late father, but Philippine President Noynoy Aquino wants the name changed. This, after the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) again got ranked as one of the world’s worst airports.

According to a list compiled by US website Cheat Sheet, NAIA is among the 10 worst airports in the world because of its poor facilities and long queues. Cheat Sheet also cited the airport’s “impolite” staff, despite Filipinos being known around the world for their warmth.

The article also mentioned the airport’s overcapacity, which has resulted to long lines that begin outside the terminal. Some  32 million passengers use NAIA each year despite the fact that it only has the capacity for 6 million passengers.

In 2013, NAIA was named worst airport in the world by travel website Sleeping In Airports, which asked travelers to rank airports based on comfort, conveniences, cleanliness, and customer service.

In talking to reporters, President Aquino said that he doesn’t want the Aquino name to be dragged for anything that is negative and unpopular.  Asked if he had any new name in mind for the airport, Aquino said, “For all I care, they can name it Gloria Macapagal Arroyo International Airport,” referring to his predecessor and political nemesis.

Aquino has consistently blamed Arroyo for all the ills and problems now faced by the Philippines.

Upon hearing about Aquino’s statement, Representative and former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos proposed that NAIA be renamed Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport.

Ninoy Aquino was assassinated in the tarmac of the airport during the regime of Ferdinand Marcos.

Boston, Massachusetts (The Adobo Chronicles) – President NoyNoy Aquino shared a pepperoni pizza with U.S. Representative Joseph Kennedy III at a pizzeria that was one of the Philippine leader’s favorites when his family lived in exile in Boston.

Aquino met with the grandnephew of U.S. President John F. Kennedy at Bill’s Pizzeria in Newton on Monday morning, prior to his scheduled policy speech at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Except for a photo coverage, reporters were not allowed at the meeting between the two scions of their countries’ most influential political families. At press time, details of their 30-minute meeting have yet to be released.

However, sources close to Kennedy said that the congressman was extremely upset and insulted when the Philippine president asked for a knife and fork for his pizza slice. “Over here in Massachusetts, or anywhere in the U.S., we eat pizza with our hands, never with any utensil,” Kennedy reportedly told Aquino. Apparently, Aquino wanted to impress upon Kennedy that while Filipinos are known for eating their food with their hands, they also know how to use utensils.

The sources also said that while Kennedy was pleased to meet with Aquino, he was disgusted that the breakfast meeting was  held at a pizzeria.  “In America, we don’t eat pizza for breakfast. We eat pancakes, bacon and eggs,” Kennedy said.
