In Makati, free birthday cakes for its senior citizens

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Vice President Jejomar Binay criticized Mar Roxas for remaining in his position as Secretary of Interior and Local Governments after he had officially declared his candidacy for president of the Philippines in 2016. Roxas is President NoyNoy Aquino’s anointed successor.

“Common sense should tell Roxas that it would be inappropriate if not illegal for a cabinet official to remain in his appointed position while campaigning for political office,” Binay said. “Who knows if government funds are being used for the political campaign?”

“Roxas cannot have his cake and eat it too ” Binay told reporters.

“If he wants his cake, he can live in Makati City where the local government gives away free cake to its senior citizens during their birthdays.”

Roxas could not be immediately reached for comment.

DONALD TRUMP TO MEET WITH PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT AQUINO ABOUT HOSTING THE NEXT MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  Colombia has retracted its bid to host the next  Miss Universe pageant amid public rejection of owner Donald Trump’s recent controversial comments on Latinos in his presidential candidacy speech.

Capital Bogota said in March that it was interested in hosting next year’s Miss Universe, a global beauty pageant owned by Trump. However, following Trump’s derogatory comments, the capital’s Institute of Tourism confirmed they no longer have interest in hosting the event.

“Bogota declines its aspiration to be the host city of the next version of the contest. The decision was adopted after the disrespectful statements against Latino and Mexican community pronounced by Donald Trump from the United States,” the tourism agency said in a statement released on Tuesday.

In a desperate effort to save the pageant from total extinction, Trump announced he was flying to Manila soon after tomorrow’s Miss USA pageant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to meet with Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino.

Trump will seek to convince Aquino to host the next Miss Universe pageant.

In announcing his trip to Manila, Trump said that the Philippines would be a most appropriate host for the next pageant. “It has two Miss Universe title holders — Gloria Diaz and Margarita Moran, not to mention the fact that the Philippines has been consistently in the top 10 finalists in recent pageants. The country has also been a host to the pageant twice, in 1974 and 1994.

Trump is expected to ask Aquino for the use of the Philippine Arena, the world’s largest indoor area, as venue for the pageant.

PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT WILL VIOLATE ITS OWN ‘NO RANSOM’ POLICY

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles ) – Ah, the price of peace in the Philippines!

The proposed Bangsamoro Autonomous Region that will be created should the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) be passed is expected to receive P336.9 billion total funds over a period of five years. This includes the nearly P37 billion allocations for 2016 approved by the Committee on Appropriations and Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) projected that the Bangsamoro region is set to receive a total of P56.6 billion in 2016; P58.2 billion in 2017; P65.9 billion in 2018; P73.5 billion in 2019; and, P82.7 billion in 2020.

President NoyNoy Aquino and many legislators are aggressively campaigning for the approval of the controversial  BBL, in their desperate attempt to put an end to the decades-long Muslim insurgency and separatist movement  in southern Philippines.

The Philippine government, of course, has been steadfast in its “no ransom” policy for the kidnapping of foreigners as well as Filipino citizens.  But Aquino and the legislators seem to be willing to violate that same policy to buy back  the elusive peace in Mindanao.

Money talks. But the question is : whose money?

(We think they’re  called taxpayers.)
