MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – A young Filipino  lawyer — named Jesus —  has asked the Philippine Supreme Court (SC) to lift same-sex marriage prohibitions in the country’s almost 3-decade-old Family Code.

Jesus Nicardo Falcis, who identified himself as openly gay in his May 18 petition, argued that limiting civil marriages and the rights that go with such unions to heterosexuals violate the constitutionally guaranteed protection for equal treatment, undue interference to liberty rights, and marital autonomy.

Ireland — a Catholic country like the Philippines — just became the first in the world to legalize gay marriage by popular vote.  Will the Philippines be next? Unlikely.

Here are the top ten reasons gay marriage will never be legal in the Philippines:

  1. It’s in the books, but in actuality, there is no such thing as ‘Separation of Church and State’
  2. Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines ( CBCP)
  3. Senator Tito Sotto
  4. Congressman Manny Pacquiao
  5. CBCP
  6. CBCP
  7. CBCP
  8. CBCP
  9. CBCP
  10. CBCP

TOP PHILIPPINE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES NAMED. GUESS WHO’S NO. 1?

imageMANILA, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles) – The list of 2015 Top 100 Colleges and Universities in the Philippines was released today by Webometrics, the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions.

There weren’t any big surprises, with many universities and colleges that have always been considered tops in the Philippines making this year’s list, like the University of the Philippines, Ateneo University, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, among others.

But there was one big surprise in this  year’s list: the Congress of the Republic of the Philippines which made it to the No. 1 spot.

A spokesperson for Webometrics told The Adobo Chronicles that Congress has become the best training ground for neophytes, the non-qualified, the inexperienced and the non-credentialed politicians. After just their second year in the institution, many become corrupt, millionnaires or money launderers, and candidates for graduate school at the National Penitentiary.

Congress also changes people’s careers: actors become politicians, and politicians become actors, Webometrics said.

PHILIPPINES’ VP BINAY SAYS POTENTIAL PRESIDENTAL RIVAL CANDIDATE SENATOR POE HAS NO EXPERIENCE IN CORRUPTION

MANILA, Philippines ( The Adobo Chronicles ) – Despite a court-ordered freeze on his bank accounts, which seems to bolster the corruption allegations against him, Vice President Jejomar Binay on Sunday said he would still run for president in 2016 because it would be risky to entrust the Philippines to leaders “without experience and competence.”

Binay was obviously referring to Senator Grace Poe whose popularity with voters has put her at the head of the Aquino administration’s search for a presidential candidate in next year’s elections.

President Aquino and Poe met two weeks ago to discuss the senator’s role in the elections. On Saturday, Poe, who topped the 2013 senatorial election, said she was looking up to the President for guidance in her role in shaping the future of the Philippines.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Binay said he wanted to “bring experience and competence” to the national leadership.

Binay told The Adobo Chronicles  that the female senator is not fit to be president because “she has no experience in graft and corruption, money laundering, illegal transactions and other qualifications presidential hopefuls should have.” “The people’s choice for the next president is clear; Binay is the guy,” he added.
