PHILIPPINE HOUSEMAIDS, DRIVERS FINALLY ATTAIN NEW CLASS STATUS

FullSizeRender (12)Makati, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – In the Philippines, as in many countries, there are three classes of people — rich, middle class, and poor.  The gap between and among these three classes has all but widened over many decades.

But finally, Filipino housemaids and drivers have earned their own class distinction.  While they are free to interact with the rich, they are not allowed in the same elevators with their employers or bosses. They either have to use service elevators, if available, or use the stairwell.

This new social class has emerged as the Philippines continues to experience an infrastructure boom, especially in condominium buildings.

Many condominiums in Makati and other Philippine metropolitan areas have implemented a policy barring housemaids, drivers and contractors from using elevators reserved for condo owners and tenants.

FullSizeRender (13)The new class system surfaced after a memorandum from a condo property manager was posted on Facebook. The memo, addressed to unit owners and tenants, stated:

“We would like once again to request all Unit Owners and Tenants to remind their household employees, i.e., drivers, housemaids, outside contractors, to strictly use the Service Elevator only.”

“The administration office has had a number of enquiries from owners in the building on why helpers are using the Passenger Elevators when only Unit Owners/Tenants and their guests are allowed to the Passenger Elevators.”

Apparently, this is a common practice in many condos in Metro Manila.

Overjoyed with their newly-attained class status, housemaids and drivers have expressed relief that finally, they are being afforded the special recognition they have long clamored for.

ANOTHER WORLD RECORD FOR THE PHILIPPINES!

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) is not yet ready to retire its mantra of ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines.’ In fact, the country has added yet anther world record to its string of accomplisments, Tourism Secretary Ramon Ramirez  Jr. proudly announced today.

The new world record? Filipinos ranked Number 1 in the world among the most gullible people on the Internet. India was a distant second, followed by the United States.

NetData International, a company that studies all kinds of data on the Internet, has shown that Filipinos are the most gullible in terms of satirical articles. Their data reveals that majority of shares from satirical articles are coming from the Philippines. They also noted that more than half of these articles are written by Filipinos.

imageAccording to NetData social media experts, this data signifies that most Filipino internet users either share an article they haven’t read or understood or they just can’t distinguish satire from legitimate news.

DOT said the Philippines is not only famous for its scenic natural landscapes, its beauty queens, champion boxers and corrupt politicians, but it has also established itself as a country with top world records.

Earlier this year, Makati City in the Philippines was named ‘Selfie Capital of the World.’ Cebu City recently topped the Guinness World Record of the largest single Zumba class. And the newly-opened  Philippine Arena now holds the distinction as the largest indoor arena in the world. Not to mention the most number of Filipino nationals (and those of Filipino heritage) winning international reality show singing competitions.

So go ahead, say it one more time… ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines!’

WILL THE REAL MANNY PACQUIAO PLEASE STEP FORWARD?

Macau, China  (The Adobo Chronicles) – On November 22, boxing’s only eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao faces American boxer Chris Algieri for the WBO Welterweight title in Macau, China.

Algieri told reporters today that he is very confident he “will defeat the 5’2″-tall Filipino champion boxer.”

Wait. Manny Pacquiao is 5’7″ tall.

Apparently, the 5’10” tall Algieri met the wrong boxer during yesterday’s press conference to promote the upcoming title fight.

Algieri came an hour early to the press conference at the Venetian Macau and he came face to face with Thai boxer, flyweight Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym who fights in the undercard against two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming.

If Shiming wins over Onesongchaigym, can he claim he defeated Pacquiao? Better still, if Algieri loses to Pacquiao, can he claim he was defeated by Onesongchaigym?

The world will be watching closely. On Pay-Per-View.
