KARAOKE SINGING LEADS TO MORE DEATHS IN THE PHILIPPINES: COULD IT BE FRANK SINATRA’S ‘MY WAY?’

TACLOBAN, Leyte (The Adobo Chronicles) – Two men and a woman were shot dead by a soldier inside a videoke bar in Jaro, Leyte early Thursday morning, police said.

The victims were identified as Andres Cadapan, Joselito Sunico, and Lea Mae Jamito. The woman worked as a waitress in the bar. Another waitress, identified as Maria Fe Puasa, was also injured in the incident.

Based on police investigation, the incident occurred after the bar owner Alejandro Molabola reprimanded PFC Baltazar Nacion for singing too loud. Instead of listening to Molabola, Nacion mauled him, which led to a commotion after some of the other customers went after Nacion.

Nacion and another soldier escaped after the commotion. They later returned and Nacion allegedly fired at the customers and the two waitresses.

This is not the first time that people were killed in karaoke bars in the Philippines. In fact, police records show that there is one karaoke song that is considered the ‘deadliest’ of all: Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way.’ Is it because of the song’s lyrics, ‘the final curtain?’

The Adobo Chronicles, however, could not confirm whether the song that Nacion sang was ‘My Way.’

MAIL-ORDER BRIDES: PHILIPPINES SAYS TO FOREIGNERS – ‘SHOW ME YOUR MONEY!’

CEBU CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Male foreigners who have the intention to marry Filipinas will have to first show they have money, according to a new bill that recently passed the Philippines’ House of Representatives.

The bill, authored by former Cebu governor and current third district Representative Gwendolyn Garcia, is meant to protect Filipino women against exploitation.

Garcia said that many so-called mail-order brides end up being battered by their husbands or worse, forced into prostitution and other degrading and dehumanizing occupations.

“Since there is no way to prove that love is the major motivation for these male foreigners in marrying their Filipina girlfriends, at least we can demand that they show proof that they have enough funds to support their future wives,” Garcia said.

Garcia stopped short of legislating a “reverse dowry” system, in which, the groom will pay cash or in-kind gifts to the bride’s family in order for the marriage to take place.

In many countries and cultures like India, it is the bride’s family that pays cash and gifts to the bridegroom’s family.

Garcia’s bill specifies the amount that the male foreigner has to have in his bank account, which is $100,000. In order to prevent fraud, the bill states that the required dollar amount should have been in the foreigner’s bank account for at least 2 years. He also needs to show proof that the amount was not borrowed from someone else.

PHILIPPINES PRESIDENT AQUINO’S EXIT STRATEGY: EXILE IN TONGA

FullSizeRender (35) MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – While standing firm and defiant amid calls for his resignation, Philippines President NoyNoy Aquino has reportedly come up with an exit strategy, just in case.

Political, religious and activist groups have demanded that the embattled president step down due to his inability to effectively manage the government. The calls for his resignation have escalated since allegations have surfaced regarding his ‘role’ in the slaying of the 44 police officers (PNP-SAF) during a ‘misencounter’ with rebel forces in the southern island of Mindanao.

According to inside sources at Malacañang, the presidential palace, Aquino is looking at an exit strategy similar to what happened in 1986, when then President Ferdinand E. Marcos fled to Hawaii after the people power uprising.

The same sources said that instead of fleeing to Hawaii, Aquino is looking to be exiled in a new South Pacific island in Tonga.

This new island recently formed as a result of an underwater volcanic eruption off the coast of Tonga last month. Experts believe a volcano exploded underwater and expanded until an island formed.

The experts also believe that the “new” island is expected to erode back into the ocean in a matter of months. So Aquino needs to act on his exit strategy soon before the island disappears.
