LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – There was one too many national anthems sung during Saturday’s boxing fight between Filipino Manny Pacquiao and American Floyd Mayweather.

In addition to the Philippine and American national anthems, the Mexican national anthem was also sung just before the boxers entered the ring.

The announcer said the Mexican National Anthem was being sung to commemorate Cinco De Mayo. Many speculated that it was a demand made by Tecate beer (brewed in Mexico), one of the fight’s major sponsors.

Well, an investigative reporting done by The Adobo Chronicles revealed that it was one of the conditions imposed upon by Mayweather when he signed the deal with the Pacquiao camp.

It turns out that Mayweather is a dual citizen — of the U.S. and Mexico. His Mexican connection explains his surname which pays tribute to the month of May, as in ‘Mayo’ in Spanish. As in Cinco de Mayo.

There will certainly be a lot of celebration going on with the Mayweather camp: a unanimous decision victory over Pacquiao, Cinco de Mayo and bottomless Tecate beer!

MSNBC TO REPRESENTATIVE JOAQUIN CASTRO: ‘SHOW US YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE!’

imagePANAMA CITY, Panama (The Adobo Chronicles) – As President Barack Obama geared up for a historic meeting with Cuba’s Raul Castro at the Summit of the Americas, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell broadcast her show live from Panama City. But things quickly became awkward when she asked her guest, Rep. Joaquín Castro (D-TX) about his “Cuban-American background.”

“Well, I’m Mexican-American,” Castro quickly corrected her, acknowledging that he does have the “same last name” as the leader of Cuba.

But MSNBC stood by its news anchor and defended its credibility, demanding that Castro (the Mexican-American) release his birth certificate to clear the air once and for all.

Asked by The Adobo Chronicles about the embarrasing MSNBC interview, Castro reiterated: “Soy Mexicano. No soy Cubano.”

THOUSANDS OF CATHOLICS FLOCK TO CHURCHES WITH THEIR PETS AFTER PRONOUNCEMENT FROM POPE FRANCIS

pope-francis-child-1Sao Paulo, Brazil (The Adobo Chronicles) – In Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines and other Catholic countries around the world, scenarios akin to the biblical Noah’s Ark were seen in many churches today, thanks to a pronouncement by Pope Francis during his regular weekly address at St. Peter’s Square in The Vatican.

The pope said that all animals go to heaven, as he tried to comfort a little boy who was upset about the death of his pet dog.

The Catholic Church and other religious groups have always maintained that animals, unlike human beings, have no souls and as such do not have “life after death.”

Upon hearing of the pope’s announcement, Catholics around the world flocked to their churches, tagging along their pet animals — from dogs and cats, to birds and snakes.  They were one in fervent prayer that they and their furry, feathery and slimy friends will be reunited with them in heaven when they leave this mortal world.

It wasn’t even a Sunday, the traditional day of the week when Catholics attend mass and services at their churches.  Church and parish officials are reportedly bracing for overcrowding and chaos as Catholics — and their pets — attend services this coming Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent.  It will be a scenario repeated over and over in many countries in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

With close to 127 million Catholics, Brazil has more Catholics than any other country, and 11.7 percent of the world’s Catholic population. Brazil is followed by Mexico (96 million), Philippines (76 million), United States (75 million), Italy (49 million), Colombia (38 million), France (38 million), Poland (35 million), Spain (35 million) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (31 million).
