Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea – Samsung is living up to its advertising mantra of “The Next Big Thing Is Here,” and Apple is getting nervous. It’s out with the “thin and tiny,”  and it’s in with the “big and bulky,” as far as smart phones are concerned.

South Korea’s giant electronics company has just unveiled the next generation of its popular Samsung S-4 which has always been considered the iPhone’s biggest competition.  The competition just got bigger with Samsung’s new S-Triple X smart phone with a larger screen, high resolution camera and the convenience of a tablet that doubles as face cover for uninterrupted phone calls.

“There is nothing not to like about this new smart phone,” a spokesperson for Samsung told reporters at an electronics fair in Seoul. “No more squinting of the eyes to read tiny fonts, no more danger of misplacing phones, and no more need for a wireless, bluetooth-enabled keyboard.”

Samsung’s unveiling sent Apple executives back to the drawing board to redesign the company’s next series of iPhones. They have reportedly thrown out their idea of a mini mini-iPhone and have set their eyes on  creating the iPhone XII which is about the size of the current iPad.  Additionally, Apple sources say they will phase out the iPad since the iPhone XII will function both as a cell phone and a tablet.

‘GOOGLE VOICE’ FACES GENDER DISCRIMINATION LAWSUIT

imageSan Francisco, California – The West Coast Division of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is suing Google for gender discrimination over its popular Google Voice smart phone app.

Like  Apple’s Siri, Google Voice is able to help smart phone users with questions or directions through its voice-activated feature. The problem is that  Google Voice does not have an option for a male voice, unlike Siri.

The class action suit alleges that  Google discriminates against consumers who have specific gender preferences for their smart phone  “assistants or concierge service” by not offering the option of a male voice, especially in a gay male-dominated  place like the San Francisco Bay Area.

Google has not returned calls from The Adobo Chronicles requesting for comment on the lawsuit.

APPLE TO DUMP “AUTOCORRECT”

imageCupertino, California – Facing mounting criticism for the autocorrect feature of its smart phones and tablets, Apple today announced that it will be issuing an update to its iOS 7 that will virtually eliminate the much ridiculed feature which has embarassed a lot of people and cost them their personal relationships.

In place of autocorrect, iOS 7-C  will feature an automatic copy editor that will correct spelling and grammatical errors on social media.

Netizens have long been annoyed by grammatical errors on posts, texts and other Internet messages, so this iOS update is definitely a welcome relief.

Apple will employ copyeditors at its Cupertino headquarters to secretly monitor all posts and messages from its customers. These “live” persons will flag any grammatical errors and correct them in real time.  Apple has reportedly hired hundreds of copy editors who were fired or laid off from newspapers and other media outlets  as a result of downsizing, mergers and bankruptcies.

Examples of grammatical errors that will disappear from social media are the misuse of words like “It’s and Its,” “There, They’re and Their,” “Affect and Effect,” “Lie and Lay.”

“Social media will also see a vast improvement in the use of commas, apostrophes, quotation marks, among others,” Apple said.
