NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (The Adobo Chronicles, New Orleans Bureau) – It doesn’t matter that Celeste Cortesi didn’t even make it to the top 16. The Philippines nonetheless won its 4.5th Miss Universe Crown today when Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel was named the new Miss Universe.
Ms. Gabriel from Texas made headlines last year when she was crowned Miss USA, resulting in allegations of favoritism by other pageant contestants.
The new Miss Universe is half-Filipina which gave the Philippines an addition half point in terms of the number of Miss Universe crowns it has garnered.
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (The Adobo Chronicles, New Orleans Bureau) – What was supposed to be a heroic, flying moment for Miss Philippines Celeste Cortesi at the Miss Universe National Costume Competition has turned out to be a legal nightmare.
The estate of Mars Ravelo is suing Cortese for copyright infringement when she donned a “Darna” costume at the pageant this week.
Ravelo was a Filipino comic book cartoonist and graphic novelist who created many Filipino classics including Darna.
The Adobo Chronicles tried to reach Cortesi in New Orleans but her team told us she was busy preparing for the pageant finals and coronation this weekend.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s film awards season, with the Golden Globes just having been concluded and the Oscars soon to tickle everyone’s fancy.
