U.S., Philippines On A Stalemate!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – U.S. House of Representatives Bill No. 1433 or the proposed Philippine Human Rights Act seeks to block any assistance to the Philippine military and police until the government ensures that perpetrators of human rights abuses are held accountable.

8,000 miles across the Pacific, in the Philippines, the U.S. was given access to an additional four military operation sites in addition to the five already existing under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

Is the U.S. having its cake and eating it too?

Not quite.

If the U.S. House Bill becomes law, the Philippines could cancel EDCA.

STALEMATE!

Ex-Comelec Chair Andy Bautista Proposes Swap With Jailed Senator Leila De Lima

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – The outcry for the release of former Senator Leila De Lima more than 6 years of incarceration is growing louder and louder.

Today, De Lima received support from the most unexpected place — San Francisco, and the most unexpected individual — ex-Comelec Chair Andy
Bautista.

Bautista remains in hiding from Philippine authorities which have issued his arrest warrant for non-appearance at a Senate probe on “unexplained wealth,” an accusation coming from his own wife.

In a Twitter post, Bautista demanded that De Lima be freed now, offering to swap his luxurious life in the U.S. with De Lima’s solitary confinement in jail.

Almost immediately, the hashtag #FreeLeilaDeLima was replaced with #ArrestAndyBautistaNow.

Many netizens, however, commended Bautista for his courage, compassion for De Lima, and his true sense of
patriotism. What a man!

Raissa Robles Wants PH To Return To The Era Of Manual Typewriters

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – No one knows how old self-proclaimed investigative journalist Raissa Robles is — not even Wikipedia — but many believe she’s twice older than how she looks now. Which is no big deal. Everyone grows old, some older.

But even old people adapt to modern technology, especially journalists. Not Robles. Just look at her Twitter posts!

Case in point, she expressed shock and awe at the “incredibly fast” results for the 2022 Philippine Presidential elections. Never mind that her tweets and crowdsourcing for her “news” stories register on the Internet in seconds. Never mind that AI (that would be Artificial Intelligence) could make her look like a 5 year-old or a centenarian.

No one knows if Robles uses a desktop or a laptop or if she connects via dial-up. Does she own a smart phone or one with black rotary dial?

But one thing’s clear. She wants all of the Philippines to go back to the era of manual typewriters with ribbons, and of communication via PT&T telegrams (millennials can just google it!).

Welcome to the world of Raissa Robles!
