Moscow, Russia – The preliminary competition for the 2013 Miss Universe Pageant unfolded today at  the Vegas Mall in Moscow, as contestants from 86 countries paraded in their “national costumes.”

The Huffington Post  reports:  “Alexandra Fribourg of Sweden honored her country’s Viking past in a metallic bustier and a sword. Miss Belgium Noémie Happart looked like she was dressed as the Devil complete a spiky red spear, and Miss Great Britain Amy Willerton wore royal robes so sexy we bet even Prince Philip would have a thing or two to say.”

But when all was said and done, Miss USA Erin Brady brought home the bacon by winning the best national costume award.  She wore a red, white and blue robot attire that would make American fans of “The Transformers” proud and ecstatic. “The Transformers” is a blockbuster Hollywood movie directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg.

As in any competition, there are winners and there are sore losers. Many contestants — especially those who remained faithful to their authentic cultural tradition — questioned whether Miss Brady was even a real person, or a robot. Others came to the defense of Miss U.S.A., saying that she was an epitome of what the United States of America is all about. “Everything in America revolves around comic strips, Hollywood and Las Vegas-style circus,” they said, “so Ms. Brady’s costume accurately represents the good old US of A .”

The Adobo Chronicles learned from reliable sources that Ms. Brady almost didn’t make it in time for the competition because she was held for days at the Moscow airport, while security and customs officers inspected her unusually huge luggage which contained boxes and boxes of unassembled parts of her robot costume.

The finals of the Miss Universe Pageant will be held November 9 at the Crocus City Hall.

ROBERTSON FAMILY SUED OVER CHRISTMAS ALBUM

imageWest Monroe, Louisiana –  Last week, The Adobo Chronicles reported that Hallmark Greeting Cards was sued for changing the lyrics of the Christmas carol,” Deck The Halls” from “don we now our gay apparel” to “don we now our fun apparel” in a  Christmas ornament it was selling on the Internet. The copyright lawsuit was brought on by the estates of the composers of the traditional song.

Today, the same estates are suing the Robertson family and Duck Dynasty over the family’s newly-released Christmas album. Duck Dynasty is an American reality TV series on A&E. It shows the lives of the Robertson family, who became wealthy from their family-operated business, Duck Commander, operated in West Monroe, Louisiana which makes products for hunters, primarily the duck call named Duck Commander. The show has broken several ratings records on both A&E and cable television as a whole; the fourth season premiere drew 11.8 million viewers, the most-watched nonfiction cable telecast in history.

The Christmas album is titled, “Duck The Halls,” which is also the title of one of the songs in the album.  In the song, the lyrics “fa la la la la la la la la” were changed to “quack quack quack quack quack quack quack quack quack.”

In documents filed with the federal court, the lawyers for the estates said that the new album and song make a mockery of the much-revered Welsh carol penned by their late clients. “It’s a total quackery,” they added.

The family is reportedly lining up their ducks right now to face this multimillion lawsuit.

SAME-SEX MARRIAGE NOW LEGAL IN THE ENTIRE U.S.A.

imageHonolulu, Hawaii (EMBARGOED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE) – Both supporters and opponents worldwide have expressed amazement at how quickly same-sex marriage became legal in all of the United States. Immediately after the Hawaii legislature approved the bill legalizing same-sex marriage, the following news flash appeared in almost all media outlets in all continents : “50th U.S. State Approves Same-Sex Marriage.”

The International Business Times, Japan Times, Manila Daily Bulletin, The Times of India, The Paris Register, The Berlin Times, The London Enquirer and many other publications were unanimous in applauding the United States for the speed in which the number of U.S. States where same-sex marriage is now legal went from 15 to 50, not including the District of Columbia. It all happened within a matter of months. Illinois was the 15th state to legalize same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists praised Hawaii for “sealing the deal” to make same-sex marriage legal in the entire U.S.A. Many pointed out that it was appropriate for Hawaii to be the state to earn this distinction. “After all,” they said, “the U.S. movement to legalize same-sex marriage all but started in Hawaii when the Hawaii Supreme  Court ruled in the early 1990’s that the state’s ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.  It was a landmark case (Baehr vs. Lewin) that set off the marriage equality movement in the U.S. Mainland.

Hawaii became the 50th state of the U.S. on August 21, 1959.
