The Disappearing Act Of Pork At SM Baguio Supermarket

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – Grocery shoppers at the SM in Baguio City — the summer capital of the Philippines — are at a quandary over the disappearance of pork from the mall’s supermarket.

For almost a week now, pork was nowhere to be found in the supermarket’s meat and frozen sections.  It has caused  some serious frustration among the locals who depend on SM for their pork supply for their lechon kawali, pata tim, pork adobo, sinigang na baboy, inihaw na baboy, bagnet, and other Filipino pork-based recipes.

When asked, SM Supermarket sales associates simply tell customers that “there has not been a delivery” of pork.

The situation has fueled lots of speculation from pork lovers — ranging from possible ASF (African Swine Fever) which may have affected  the pig population of the supermarket’s supplier to failure of SM to pay their pork suppliers on time.  Others have said that as a business strategy, beef and chicken suppliers may have paid SM a hefty fee to make pork disappear from the supermarket.

It is not clear if this pork shortage only applies to Baguio or other SM   Supermarkets across the country.

Mocha Uson Dontes To Leni Robredo’s Batangas Calamity Relief Campaign

TAAL, Batangas (The Adobo Chronicles, Taal Bureau) – In time of need — especially during natural calamities such as the volcanic activity at Taal, Batangas — Filipinos can come together as one regardless of their political color.

While Leni Robredo and blogger extraordinaire Mocha Uson have been trading barbs over the Vice President’s relief operations for the Taal calamity victims, they have patched things up in solidarity with the thousands of Filipinos in need.

(Uson earlier criticized Robredo for the reported 5 pandesal and 2 bottle of water contained in her relief packages, whie the VP accused uson of being the “bearer of fake news.”)

Hundreds of boxes of cookies arrived at the Office of the Vice President’s relief center in Batangas for distribution to displaced Filipinos now housed at various evacuation centers.

The donor? Why, Mocha Uson of course!

Leni Robredo: Mocha And I Are Now BFF’s

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Remember that time when Kris Aquino said on a live broadcast that she and President Rodrigo Duterte were now “friends?” (Best friends na kami ni PRRD!). It was over some issues Aquino had with then PCOO Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.

Now, Uson is in a similar situation with Vice President Leni Robredo. In a recent post, Uson criticized Robredo over what she said were the VP’s photo ops during the distribution of relief goods to those affected by the Taal Volcano eruption. Getting back at her,  Robredo said Uson was a bearer of “fake news” while receiving taxpayer money in salary as Deputy Executive Director of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

But in the spirit of national unity and reconciliation, and in solidarity with the victims of this latest tragedy in the country, Robredo has offered an Olive branch to Uson.

”Mocha and I are now BFFs (Best Friends Forever).  To prove her sincerity, the Vice President directed her staff to procure Hansel brand cookies — get this — Mocha flavor, as part of the relief goods to be disributed to the calamity victims.

All’s well that ends well!
