BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu has ordered his regional staff to make an inventory of Pine trees in Baguio City, following the series of the government’s rehabilitation efforts in some tourist spots in the country.

Cimatu was guest speaker at the alumni homecoming of the Philippine Military Academy in this summer capital.

But when he was informed by his staff that there’s not much Pine trees left to count, Cimatu revised his standing order and asked instead for an inventory of houses and business establishments now standing where Pine trees used to tread.

Proposed Baguio City Ordinance: No Gossiping Unless Juicy, No Bikini Underwear To Dry In Public

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – Late last year, the Baguio City government approved an ordinance banning cussing in public.  Now Barangays in the city want to take  the law a step further:  they want to ban gossiping and hanging underwear to dry in public view.

But Barangay officials in Upper Quarry clarified that they would only like to ban gossip that’s not juicy.  Anyone charged with gossiping must prove in court that the gossip has the elements of intrigue  and malice.  Otherwise, he or she will be penalized with fine and imprisonment.

Officials of Holy Ghost Barangay, on the other hand, told The Adobo Chronicles that they don’t want to ban all underwear from being hung to dry in public. “We only want to ban bikini-type underwear because they are a threat to the morals of our youth,” a Barangay Councilman said.

So, when in the summer capital of the Philippines,  watch your morals.  No cussing, no gossiping, and no public display of wet underwear.

Duterte Orders Reclamation Of Baguio City’s Burnham Lake

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the immediate reclamation of Baguio City’s Burnham Lake.

The man-made lagoon, which has been the venue of  rental paddle boats for many decades , has been criticized for its murky, oftentimes chocolate-colored water.

Duterte’s order is his first since issuing an Executive Order transfering the approval of reclamation projects to the Office of the President, through the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA),

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo told The Adobo Chronicles that immediately after reclamation, the lake will be converted into an ice-skating rink, an idea first conceived by Baguio’s city officials.

When completed, the Burnham Ice Skating Rink is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of tourists.

It will also make Baguio the entertainment park capital of the Philippines. Recently, Baguio’s SM Mall opened  Sky Ranch, a carnival park on Luneta Hill, featuring a ferris wheel and other rides.
