Rappler Fact-Checks Pinoy Ako Blog

25666B32-6A0E-4AA6-93B6-B7AC434FEC53.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In its first major fact-checking project since becoming a member of the International Fact-Check Network, Rappler condemned Jover Laurio and her Pinoy Ako Blog (PAB) for spreading fake news.

Rappler did an in-depth investigation into the facts claimed by PAB in its post which claimed that Thinking Pinoy (TP) was spreading fake news about U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly calling Philippine Senator Antonio Trillanes a “narco.”

PAB cited The Adobo Chronicles as TP’s source, pointing out that the former is a satire site.

In its investigation, Rappler found out that TP’s source was actually the Philippine Star, not The Adobo Chronicles.  TP himself said so on his Twitter page.

“Furthermore,” Rappler said, “TP’s post preceded The Adobo Chronicles’ story so it couldn’t be possible that he got his information from the satire site.“

When asked what Rappler’s source was for its investigation, CEO Maria Ressa said, “The Adobo Chronicles.”

Rappler and The Adobo Chronicles have satisfactorily complied with all these criteria.

The Adobo Chronicles was hailed as the only news site that tells its readers which parts of its stories are fact and which are fiction.
