Leni Robredo Loses Electoral Protest By Technical Knockout

D195D82F-C1DD-42D2-925E-54C929CC61FD.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Subject to fact-checking by Rappler and Vera Files – In boxing, the winner of a match is decided by the judges’ unanimous decision, majority decision, or in some cases, by a technical knockout.

Today, the Philippines’ Supreme Court, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) voted unanimously in favor of Bongbong Marcos’ electoral protest.

While the ballot recount is still ongoing, PET decided to declare the process null and void by virtue of a technicality.

The technicality arose from yesterday’s revelation that a PET Revisor from the Vice President’s camp broke bread (and broke the rules) with members of the PET Revisors.  It happened during an outing in Pansol, Laguna. The group was literally in hot water. (Pansol is known for its hot springs.)

In its decision, PET said that the Robredo camp all but tainted the judicial process by creating an impression that the High Court’s personnel can be corrupted by politicians. It declared Robredo as a ‘persona non grata’ not worthy of the position as second highest official in the land.’

The Adobo Chronicles spoke with sources at the Supreme Court and they all said that the Robredo camp erred in joining the PET Revisors’ outing.

”The event was bound to be caught by the public’s eye,” the sources said. “The Revisors could have chosen a more private venue for the bonding, like SOGO Hotel.”

Senator Tito Sotto To Rappler: Take Down Your Internet Story On Plagiarism

05F988FF-4F84-49FA-9349-5B4D33BA1ECCMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles,  Manila Bureau) – You give him a finger, he wants your entire arm.

Such seems to be the case with Philippine Senator Tito Sotto.

After the Inquirer took down opinion pieces written by U.S.-based columnist Rodel Rodis alleging cover-up of the Pepsi Paloma rape case, Sotto is now focusing his sight on Rappler.

At issue is a story published in the online news source that the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation has accused Sotto of plagiarizing a speech by the late former U.S. Senator. Sotto wants Rappler to take down that story.

”Now that I’m Senate President,” I have to protect my  reputation and clean up all negative stories about me.  Such unfounded accusations against me don’t bode well for the second person in the line of succession for the presidency of this country,” Sotto told The Adobo Chronicles.

Unconfirmed reports say that Rappler CEO Maria Ressa is seriously considering Sotto’s request, “for the right price.”

Twitter Ousts Maria Lourdes Sereno!

E8FB007D-21D4-457C-B3E0-D3598CA3B0D6SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) –Twitterers woke up this morning to find that the Twitter account of Maria Lourdes Sereno has been suspended. Well at least those who thought she was the true former Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court.

The Adobo Chronicles asked Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco to explain its decision to oust Sereno.

”She wasn’t qualified to have a Twitter account from the beginning because of fakery, so what we did was simply oust her from Twitterdom on the basis of quo warranto,” a spokesperson said.
