Maria Ressa To Seek Asylum At Columbia University In New York!

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Rappler CEO and convict Maria Ressa is seeking asylum in the United States under the guise of a teaching job at New York’s Columbia University.

Facing possible jail time should the Philippine Supreme Court junk her appeal to overturn her conviction by a lower court of the crime of cyber libel, the Nobel Laureate chose to seek protective shelter in a U.S. academic institution.

Being a U.S. and Philippine dual citizen, Ressa does not really need to seek political asylum in America, but she chose to be under the protective custody of Columbia to escape jail time in the Philippines.

Ressa is set to join Columbia as a professor in the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).

The announcement made by Columbia last June 28 said Maria Ressa will at first be lecturing as a distinguished fellow at the Institute of Global Politics (IGP) in Fall 2023 and will begin teaching at SIPA in July 2024.

The Adobo Chronicles reached out to the staff of Rappler who all declined to comment on what their future holds if Ressa eventually shuts down the online news portal.

Leni Robredo’s Angat Buhay Unveils New, P50M Logo!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Angat Buhay Foundation (incorporated as Angat Buhay Pinas), the non-governmental organization headed by ex-Vice President Leni Robredo, has launched its new art nouveau logo in glittering ceremonies held last night at the Okada Manila Hotel.

The launch came just a day after the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) unveiled its new logo. The logo has since been the subject of controversy because of its irrelevant design and P3M cost.

Angat Buhay’s new logo incorporates everything that is representative of the Leni phenomenon — from the pink hue to the flowing lines which depict electric waves that symbolize the uplifting of the lives of the less fortunate of society.

No government funds were spent on the logo, although it reportedly cost the foundation P50M. that’s more than the entire ‘Love The Philippines’ campaign of the Department of Tourism.

POLL: Drag Performance Of “The Lord’s Prayer” : Art Or Blasphemy?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A viral video of drag queen Pura Luka Vega singing along to a remix of “Ama Namin,” otherwise known as The Lord’s Prayer, is receiving mixed reactions from netizens – Catholics and LGBTs alike.

The video, which was posted by Vega herself, shows the drag queen dressed up as the Black Nazarene while singing along to a remix of The Lord’s Prayer in a bar.

Immediately, many Filipinos condemned the performance, calling it blasphemy. Others who defended it said it was art.

This kind of controversy is anything but news. What comes to mind is the rock musical and film, “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

And who could forget the 2022 Philippine presidential campaign when supporters of Leni Robredo paraded a poster depicting her as Mary, the mother of Jesus. And oh yes, that Easter celebration that turned pinklawan!

As the leading satirical site in the Philippines and named to the top 50 in the world, The Adobo Chronicles is conducting a poll with this question:

Is the Vega performance blasphemy or art?
