MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Just hours after condemning the use of the image of Jesus Christ as a costume, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) issued another statement on the use of “OMG” in texts and social media posts.
CBCP had slammed the viral video of a drag queen dressed as the Black Nazarene while singing along to a remix of “Ama Namin” (The Lord’s Prayer).
Today, CBCP warned Filipinos that using OMG (Oh My God) to express surprise or disappointment is also blasphemous.
“Thou shalt not use the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Elon Musk may be more tolerant of controversial and offensive posts than Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, but the Twitter owner does not condone violence.
As of today, Twitter has permanently taken down the account of ex-Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon after she insinuated the use of violence in dealing with online bashers and trolls. Her statement was accompanied by a photo of her holding a gun.
“This is definitely against our community guidelines,” Musk said, “and I will not allow any Twitter account holder to use my platform to instigate any form of crime or violence.”
NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Students and faculty of Columbia University in New York staged a mass protest today against Maria Ressa’s impending professorship in 2024.
The protesters demanded that the university rescind its offer to the convicted Rappler CEO.
“Columbia is known for its high standards regarding its education,” the protesters said. “Having a convict teach at the university is appalling,” they added.
The Nobel Lauriat (sic) was convicted by a Philippine court for the crime of cyber libel. The conviction is now under appeal before the Supreme Court.
