MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A furious Maria Ressa reprimanded her own staff at Rappler for publishing a news report regarding an SWS survey on their own online portal.
The survey showed that 89% of Filipinos were satisfied with how Democracy works in the Philippines. The survey runs counter to Ressa’s claims here and abroad that Philippine Democracy is threatened by government efforts to suppress Freedom of the Press, as well as what she describes as disinformation on social media.
In an hour-long staff meeting, the Rappler CEO castigated her staff for allowing to publish the report which puts her in an embarrassing situation with the folks at the Nobel Prize Committee as well as her blind supporters among the Western media.
Short of terminating her employees, Ressa warned that a repeat of the blunder will automatically mean pink slips for the staff.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In a complete turnaround that shocked both sides of the political spectrum, ex-Vice President Leni Robredo attended the sendoff for President Bongbong Marcos as he left for a state visit to Japan.
Robredo was all smiles as Marcos acknowledged her presence.
This was the first in-person meeting between Marcos and Robredo since the May presidential elections where the former won the contest by a landslide.
All’s well that ends well!
P.S. An Adobo Chronicles loyal follower just called us to point out that the lady in the photo was not Robredo but former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. We regret the error.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines’ living ex-Presidents have a lot to thank Senator Bong Go for. The former lady-in-waiting to President Rodrigo Duterte is taking good care of them post their Malacañang residency.
Go has filed a new Senate bill that would grant more fringe benefits to ex-Presidents other than personal bodyguards from the Presidential Security Group (PSG).
Among the benefits proposed by Go are:
Free hair cut plus manicure and pedicure for life.
Free monthly full-body massage at any Nuat Thai location.
Free 50-kilo sack of NFA rice every month.
50% discount at all supermarkets.
Free appetizer and dessert at restaurants nationwide.
One-year supply of San Mig Light or Fundador, subject to renewal upon presentation of annual medical check-up certificate from St. Luke’s Hospital.
24-hour honor guard at Libingan Ng Mga Bayani or their memorial park of their choice.
P.S. The honor guard benefit will also apply to all former Presidents except Ferdinand E. Marcos. Go did not disclose why Marcos was excluded.
