The Great Filipino Meltdown

Move over COVID, there’s a new contagion in town, and it’s spreading faster than a wildfire in a fireworks factory! It’s called “meltdown,” and the Philippines is its ground zero. Everyone’s jumping on the meltdown bandwagon, from bloggers to the media, entertainment personalities, and politicians – even a former president can’t resist the temptation to throw a good old-fashioned tantrum!

But what exactly is a meltdown, you ask? It’s a unique Filipino phenomenon where people lose their cool over the most trivial matters. Whether it’s a misplaced hairpin or a typo in a tweet, a meltdown is sure to follow. It’s like a national sport, with contestants vying for gold in the histrionic Olympics.

While it’s doubtful that this meltdown will turn into a global pandemic, it’s a grave concern for the Philippines. Could we go down in history as the original source of this melodramatic illness? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, stay tuned for the next episode of “The Great Filipino Meltdown!”

2025 Senatoriables. #NasaanSiLeni

Ah, the endless clamor for Leni Robredo to run for senator in 2025 – a spectacle as riveting as watching paint dry on a rainy day.

It’s quite amusing to witness the feverish enthusiasm for a candidate who’s conspicuously absent from the top 8, top 10, top 12, or top 16 in the senatorial polls. It’s almost like searching for Nemo in a desert.

Perhaps it’s a new form of political hide-and-seek, where Robredo’s elusive senatorial campaign is so well-concealed that even pollsters struggle to locate it. Maybe she’s employing some advanced stealth technology in her quest for Senate glory, a true master of disguise.

But fear not, dear supporters, for in this fantastical realm of politics, reality often takes a backseat to wishful thinking.

So while the polls may stubbornly resist acknowledging her presence, rest assured that the clamor for Robredo’s senatorial bid will continue to echo through the empty chambers of the Interney, a beacon of hope for the ever-optimistic.

Philippine Supreme Court: No Check, No Balance

The Philippine Supreme Court has wowed the nation by dismissing the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s audacious petition challenging the legality of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s memorandum which placed a gag order on his cabinet when called to the Senate chamber.

This groundbreaking memorandum essentially said, “You can’t sit with us,” to members of the executive department when it came to discussing the government’s procurement of Covid-19 supplies.

It appears that the Supreme Court has executed a perfect pirouette on the thin tightrope of constitutional interpretation. On one hand, they championed the principle of the separation of powers, arguing that the executive branch should be free to twirl around in its own corner without being disturbed by those pesky senators and their questions. After all, why should anyone be bothered by checks and balances?

It’s almost as if they believe that the Constitution is a high-stakes game of tug-of-war, where each branch of government competes to see who can hold the rope of power the tightest.

Bravo, Supreme Court! Your performance has left us all in awe, wondering just how much contortionism can be squeezed into a single legal decision.
