PHILIPPINE CONGRESS OFFICIALLY DECLARED “NO MAN’S LAND”

govManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – As the Philippines braced itself for Typhoon Ruby, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) declared several areas of the capital as “no man’s land.”

As many as 10 districts (barangays)  and two major thoroughfares — Roxas and Espana Boulevards — were expected to experience severe storm surges and flooding. Declaring “no man’s land” means that people are forbidden to visit or stay in those areas for safety reasons.

The MDRRMO is tasked with notifying the public about potential danger and high-risk situations.

Last week, the MDRRMO declared both the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives as “no man’s land,” citing the fact that visiting the Congress buildings would pose a great danger to the taxpaying public.  An MDRRMO spokesperson said that crocodiles abound in both houses and that the public should stay away and refrain from being in contact with the legislators.

MDRRMO is reportedly also considering declaring the Malacanang (presidential palace) and the headquarters of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines as “no man’s land.”

Silicon Valley, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Who says politics and the media don’t mix?

The Adobo Chronicles announced today that the very popular Philippine Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago will assume the post of  Philippines Bureau Chief in Manila.

The announcement came just days after the 69-year-old feisty senator formally launched her new book  titled, “Stupid Is Forever.” The 132-page book features a collection of Santiago’s jokes, speeches and pick-up lines.

The publishers of The Adobo Chronicles said that “no other person is more deserving and capable of leading our Manila bureau than Santiago whose intelligence, sense of humor, sarcasm and fearlessness are great assets in the pursuit of our journalistic mission.”

The Adobo Chronicles  is published in California and distributed worldwide.  It has close to 12 Million readers, 30% of whom live in the Philippines.  Its top market is the U.S. at 40%.  The rest of its readership is spread throughout Asia, Europe, South America, Australia and the Middle East.

Santiago, a lawyer and an incumbent senator, holds the distinction as the first female editor of the University of the Philippines’ official student newspaper, The Philippine Collegian.  She was also editor of The Philippine Journal.

Her colleagues in the Senate cower in fear every time she opens her mouth to debate issues or discuss pending legislation. She minces no words when confronting politicians and others accused of wrongdoing.

At her book launching, Santiago made a controversial comment, thanking “the millions of stupid Filipinos who inspired this book.” She later clarified her comment saying that she was referring to the millions of corrupt politicians in the Philippines and the world over.

At the same event, when asked by reporters what she would say to Pope Francis if she meets him in January during the Philippine papal visit, Santiago said, “Hi, Sexy!”

Readers of The Adobo Chronicles can look forward to bigger, better and more controversial articles originating from the Philippines.

Welcome, Madam Editor!

SARAH PALIN TWEETS PHOTO TO PROVE SHE’S NOT A RACIST

Wasilla, Alaska (Exclusive to The Adobo Chronicles) – Many will remember Sarah Palin’s controversial comments during a speech last year, declaring that “the nation’s high levels of debt, including money borrowed from China, was “like slavery.”  While she prefaced her comments by saying “this isn’t racist,” many of her critics still believe that it actually was.

Her remarks were sharply criticized by  television host Martin Bashir who cited the diaries of a former plantation overseer who punished slaves by having someone defecate in their mouth or urinate on their face. He suggested the former Alaska governor deserved the same treatment.  Bashir subsequentlly apologized and resigned from his post at MSNBC.m

A couple of weeks ago, Palin posted a photograph of her and three African American ladies to her Twitter Account, with the following comment:

“Proof I am not racist. See, I’ve got black friends too — three of them, in fact!”

The ladies were, in fact, representatives of MAC (the cosmetic store) at the Pecanland Mall in Monroe, Louisiana. None of them have ever met Palin before.

Palin was in Louisiana campaigning for Republican Bill Cassidy (R-Baton Rouge) who is currently in a heated senate runoff against Senator Mary Landrieu, D-LA. The runoff will take place on December 6.

Apparently, Palin left her cosmetic bag on the plane and had to stop by the Mall for some last-minute make-up with the assistance of the MAC ladies. She thanked the ladies for “helping out with a travel emergency.”
