MANILA , Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The phenomenal success of Adele’s latest hit single, ‘Hello,’ has come to an abrupt end, thanks to former Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos and ex-President Joseph Estrada.

The duo’s version of a 1938 Filipino song, ‘Dahil Sa Iyo ‘ (Because Of You), is breaking music chart records worldwide.  Marcos, now a congresswoman, and Estrada, incumbent mayor of Manila, sang the song live at a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Philippines-China relations in Manila. Their impromptu performance immediately went viral, and in less than 24 hours, became the most-viewed music video ever on YouTube, eclipsing Adele’s recently-held record.

‘Dahil Sa Iyo’ is a song by Mike Velarde, Jr., written for the movie, ‘Bituing Marikit,’ and sung by the ‘King of the Philippine Movies’ Rogelio de la Rosa. A version with English-Tagalog lyrics, recorded in 1964, was a hit in the United States and continues to be popular in Filipino communities on American soil.

The song was famously performed by Nat King Cole at the Araneta Coliseum (now SMART Araneta Coliseum) in Quezon City in 1961. It was also sung by Jerry Vale with English title “Your Love Is Mine” (Eng. lyrics by Sonny Burke) in his album “The Language of Love” on Columbia Records, released 1963.

Many other international artists have performed or recorded the song, including The Lettermen, but none of the previous versions have quite achieved the notoriety of the Marcos-Estrada hit.  It is both musical and political, worthy of a platinum status.

ADELE’S ‘HELLO’ CLIMBS TO THE TOP OF ‘MOST ANNOYING SONG’ CHARTS

imageLOS ANGELES, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Remember Adele Dazeem, a.k.a. Idina Menzel, and her hit song ‘Let It Go’ from the animated film ‘Frozen?’

Of course you do.  You must have been one of the millions who thought of the song as the most annoying ever.  Not because it was not a great song, but because it never stopped playing on radio, on YouTube, on Facebook, in Karaoke bars.

Well, move over Adele Dazeem, it’s Adele’s turn, the real Adele, with her hit single ‘Hello.’

The song has broken world records and there is not a single soul who has not heard ‘Hello’ or saw  a music video of it on the Internet.  Hey, even Saturday Night Live did an entire segment about the song — a spoof of what could happen at family dinners this Thanksgiving Day.

Success has its downside, and we feel sorry for Adele.

CHICAGO, Illinois (The Adobo Chronicles) – Last year, Miley Cyrus sparked outrage with her Bangerz tour when she groped backup dancers and encouraged the audience to smoke marijuana. But on Thursday night, the former Disney star upped her on-stage antics, kicking off her Dead Petz club gigs in Chicago with a big bang.

In one number, Cyrus appeared on stage at The Riviera Theater practically topless with a prosthetic penis protruding from her bottom front.

While most of the audience members went wild and cheered her on, a woman who came to the concert with teenage daughters called 911 to complain about the nudity and sexual content of the show. Chicago police responded immediately and tried to stop the concert.

Rather than ruin the entire show and disappoint adoring fans, concert producers asked Cyrus to cover up. The closest thing to a cover-up that stage managers could get hold of was an iPad Pro that belonged to one of the musicians.

Cyrus did cover up with the iPad Pro (see photo) and the show went on without any further interruption.

Yet another feature of your iPad Pro that Apple didn’t tell you about!
