MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The quotation marks (open and close quotations) are the most abused special characters in news and social media — all in the name of modern graphics and quote cards.
The Adobo Chronicles collated examples of the disgusting abuse of these traditional marks to indicate a direct quote from someone.
Many media outlets and graphic designers have all but omitted the closing quotation mark, as if they want to add more to quoted statement.
Others have placed the quotation mark on photos instead of text. Still others have placed the quotation marks in the perimeter of boxes or the circumference of circles.
But the winner in all this abuse of use is TV 5 which took out all the text in their quotation marks!
MANDALUYONG CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Mandaluyong Bureau) – Maria Ressa’s online new portal, Rappler, is being touted as the beacon of light, the advocate for truth, and journalism independent of influence and vested interests.
But the least-trusted news brand in the Philippines is finally coming clean, admitting for the first time that their “news” reports are nothing but paid advertisements.
Case in point: Rappler’s report on 2018 Miss Universe Catriona Gray’s wax figure being unveiled at Madam Tussauds in Hong Kong came with a hefty price — a sponsorship by the HK wax museum.
For Rappler, it’s really all about the money, money, money!
