PHILIPPINES’ TAX WOMAN WANTS TO CONFISCATE MANNY PACQUIAO’S NEW BEVERLY HILLS MANSION

LOS ANGELES, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight king Manny Pacquiao has bought a Beverly Hills mansion formerly owned by Sean John Combs, popularly known by his stage names Puff Daddy, Diddy and P. Diddy.

Diddy is an American rapper, record producer, actor and entrepreneur. He and Jennifer Lopez were once a couple.

Elsa Nelson, vice president and manager of real estate firm Nelson Shelton & Associates, said three bidders had signified interest in buying the prime estate. “The two other bidders offered a much higher price but the current owners decided to sell it to world boxing icon Manny Pacquiao,” Nelson said.

Various media reports put the cost of the mansion at about $12 million (P540 million).

Immediately after being informed of the purchase, the Philippines’ taxwoman, Bureau of International Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares, filed a petition with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for the garnishment of Pacquiao’s new mansion, as payment for back taxes that the Filipino  boxer reportedly owes the Philippine government.

It is no secret that Henares and Pacquiao have been long at odds over what Henares claimed to be the boxer’s unpaid taxes from his U.S. boxing fights’ prize winnings.

Pacquiao will fight American Floyd Mayweather on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in what is being billed “The Fight of the Century.”

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s a clear case of big sister trying to protect little brother.

We’ve all heard about house arrest and hospital arrest. Both are forms of incaceration in lieu of jail, mostly accorded to political prisoners.  Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo comes to mind. She continues to be under hospital arrest for corruption charges.

Now, Senator Nancy Binay has proposed legislation that would institute office arrest for politicians like her brother, Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay.

The younger Binay has camped out (or in) for the third  straight day since the Office of the Ombudsman issued a suspension order against him. The order was issued over alleged overpricing in the controversial Makati City Hall Building II.

The mayor is questioning the six-month suspension order and has been holing up at city hall since Wednesday. He has said the order from the Office of the Ombudsman — a Constitutional body independent of Malacañang — is motivated by politics. He could face contempt charges if he continues to defy the orde of the Ombudsman.

Binay’s supporters have been staying outside the city hall since the suspension order was issued and have been given free take-out dinners.

In proposing the new legislation, Nancy Binay admitted it was in anticipation of her brother’s eventual arrest.

“My brother has been put into office by the people of Makati, so he has the obligation to continue to perform his duties as mayor, regardless of what the Ombudsman says,” the junior senator told reporters. “Office arrest is the most appropriate form of incarceration for Junjun,” she added.

Informed sources told The Adobo Chronicles that the Binays’ father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, has offered to pay for the construction of an annex to the Makati City Mayor’s office that would include a bedroom, kitchen and a jacuzzi in order to make his son’s offfice arrest more comfortable.

KARAOKE SINGING LEADS TO MORE DEATHS IN THE PHILIPPINES: COULD IT BE FRANK SINATRA’S ‘MY WAY?’

imageTACLOBAN, Leyte (The Adobo Chronicles) – Two men and a woman were shot dead by a soldier inside a videoke bar in Jaro, Leyte early Thursday morning, police said.

The victims were identified as Andres Cadapan, Joselito Sunico, and Lea Mae Jamito. The woman worked as a waitress in the bar. Another waitress, identified as Maria Fe Puasa, was also injured in the incident.

Based on police investigation, the incident occurred after the bar owner Alejandro Molabola reprimanded PFC Baltazar Nacion for singing too loud. Instead of listening to Molabola, Nacion mauled him, which led to a commotion after some of the other customers went after Nacion.

Nacion and another soldier escaped after the commotion. They later returned and Nacion allegedly fired at the customers and the two waitresses.

This is not the first time that people were killed in karaoke bars in the Philippines. In fact, police records show that there is one karaoke song that is considered the ‘deadliest’ of all: Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way.’ Is it because of the song’s lyrics, ‘the final curtain?’

The Adobo Chronicles, however, could not confirm whether the song that Nacion sang was ‘My Way.’
