Alabama City Passes Transgender Bathroom Law To Solve Unemployment

image.jpegOxford, Alabama (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – A small Alabama city has passed an ordinance making it illegal for transgender people to use public restrooms that don’t correspond to the biological sex listed on their birth certificate.

Oxford Council President Steven Waits said the ordinance, passed Tuesday, is in response to Target’s new restroom policy. The retail giant announced last week that it will allow transgender people to use its restrooms corresponding to the gender with which they identify. Target has one store in Oxford.

Violations would be considered as a misdemeanor in Oxford, according to reports, with penalties ranging from a $500 fine to six months in jail.

The Oxford law follows weeks of controversy over a law in North Carolina mandating that transgender people use public restrooms that correspond with their biological sex at birth.

When queried by The Adobo Chronicles  on the potential impact of the new law on Oxford’s economy, Waits said that it will essentially bring the city’s unemployment rate from 7% to 0%. Oxford’s current unemployment is higher than the national unemployment rate in the entire U.S.

“With the new law, all government buildings and private businesses will have to employ new security personnel to guard their bathrooms to make sure they are used correctly, gender-wise. Think of all the unemployed people in Oxford who will find jobs as a result,” Waits said.

When the new law takes into full effect, public bathrooms users must be always ready to show their birth certificate to the security guards before being allowed inside.

The Adobo Chronicles’ Interview With Kris Aquino On Abu Sayyaf Kidnap Threat

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chroncles, Manila Bureau) – Presidential sister and television host Kris Aquino on Thursday confirmed the alleged plot by bandit group Abu Sayyaf to kidnap her and cited this as the reason for not renewing her contract with broadcast network ABS-CBN. The plan to kidnap Kris and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao was disclosed by President Benigno Aquino III on Wednesday.

We sat down with Kris in an exclusive interview regarding the Abu Sayyaf threat.  Here is the full transcript:

AC: Is it true that your real reason for not renewing your showbiz contract was the kidnap threat by Abu Sayyaf?

KRIS: Yes, pex man (I swear). My blood pressure went to the roof when I first heard of the threat.  Afraid ako (I was afraid).

AC: But you’re the sister of the president. Why would you be afraid?

KRIS: Yun na nga eh (that’s just it). My brother could not promise me that he can protect Filipino citizens and soldiers, or foreigners from the terrorist group.  Not even me, his own sister.  So I decided to just quit show business.

AC: Why do you think you are being targeted?

KRIS: Well, it’s not just me.  As the president said, even Manny Pacquiao.

AC:  And why do you think it’s the both of you?

KRIS: Didn’t you hear what the president said last week? I am one of the biggest taxpayers, and Pacquiao is the No. 1 biggest taxpayer.  So we both have a lot of money.  Most kidnapping is for the purpose of ransom money.

AC: So do you blame your brother for exposing your wealth to potential kidnappers when he mentioned you as among the biggest taxpayers?

KRIS: Oo naman (yes of course).

AC: Do you see yourself ever going back to show business?

KRIS: I’m hopeful, lalo na kung si Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and mananalo bilang president (especially if Mayor Rodrigo Duterte wins the presidency).  I believe he’s the only one who can stop crime and terrorism in our country.  Don’t tell Mar Roxas this, but I’m voting for Duterte come May 9.

Kris Aquino To Seek Presidential Pardon For Election Law Violation

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Election lawyer Emil Marañon III, in a Thought Leader’s piece on Rappler, said presidential sister Kris Aquino broke the law when she rode a presidential chopper to go to the campaign sortie of administration standard bearer Mar Roxas in Cebu. Marañon cites Section 261 of the Omnibus Election Act that says “use of public facilities owned or controlled by the government for an election campaign” is prohibited.

Under the succeeding Section 264, violation of Section 261 (o) constitutes an election offense and is punishable “with imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than six years and shall not be subject to probation.” In addition, “the guilty party shall be sentenced to suffer disqualification to hold public office and deprivation of the right of suffrage.”

Conceding that jail time is inevitable for the election law violation, Kris has officially sought presidential pardon from her brother, NoyNoy Aquino.

Under the Philippine Constitution, pardoning felons is among the special powers granted to the president.

Do you think President Aquino will grant pardon to his sister? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
