MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Still believing that what happened in Marawi City was not act of invasion or rebellion, Senator Risa Hontiveros today filed a bill that would all but dissolve the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
Accusing the CHR of not doing enough to protect the human rights of terrorists, Hontiveros proposed a new agency that would do exactly that.
Under the proposed bill, a new Commission on Terrorist Rights (CTR) will be created with an initial funding of One Billion Pesos for the fiscval year 2018.
Reached by The Adobo Chronicles at a plush resort in Palawan, CHR Commissioner Chito Gascon said that this was a total surprise to him. He can’t believe that his best friend Hontiveros would propose something that would make him lose his job.
Atty. Gemma Parojinog, also of the CHR, is reportedly being groomed by Hontiveros to head the new CTR. Parojinog made headlines this week when she said she wants to investigate whether the proper “rules of engagement” were followed in the killing of the terrorist leaders in Marawi.
