Is Ex-Comelec Chair Andy Bautista Finally Coming Home?

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It must have been his soul-searching during the Holy Week, or perhaps just an inspiration from Peter Pan, but ex-Comelec Chair Andy Bautista may finally be coming home to face his accusers.

Bautista has a pending arrest warrant from the Philippine Senate for ignoring a subpoena, as well as charges from his own wife about alleged unexplained wealth. Reports have it that he is in hiding in San Francisco or some other obscure places in the United States.

But based on his own tweet, Bautista may finally be coming home to clear himself or face up to his troubles.

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – The Miss Universe Organization has already said that beginning in 2023, married women and those with children will be able to compete in the prestigious international beauty competition. After all, “Ms.” can also refer to those who are already a “Mrs.”

Fast forward to 2024. The organization has announced that pregnant women will also be allowed to join the pageant with one caveat: that their pregnancy will still not show or is not too far along during the competition.

Typically, a “baby bump” becomes noticeable during the first 16-20 weeks of a woman’s pregnancy.

Kudos to Miss Universe for being inclusive and non-discriminatory!

U.S. Withdraws From EDCA

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington D.C. Bureau) – The United States has withdrawn from EDCA – Enhanced Defense Cooperative Agreement – just hours after Philippine President Bongbong Marcos said that the U.S. military bases cannot be used for any American aggression.

The U.S. was granted four additional military sites in addition to the five already existing under the agreement.

Critics have said that the presence of U.S. military in the Philippines puts the former American colony in harms way should war erupt, particularly with China.

The Adobo Chronicles reached out to the U.S. State Department which said that having American military sites in the Philippines would be of no use if they are banned as staging sites for U.S. offensive against China or any other adversaries.
