Unexpected Shift: Philippines Now Holds Power Over The U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) How the world turns! The most powerful country in the world and once colonizer of a tiny archipelago in Asia is now head over heels when it comes to a third-world country, the Philippines.

Take it from The Washington Post. It is reporting that U.S. President Joe Biden is now “courting” the son of a “dictator he once opposed.”

That son, of course, is President Bongbong Marcos who is now in the U.S. for a state visit no other Philippine leader has undertaken in over a decade.

Clearly, the Post knows the reason behind the courtship: strategic staging ground for the U.S. military amid the escalating territorial dispute between China and other countries in Asia, including the Philippines.

Recently, Marcos, Jr. added four sites in his country to be used by America as part of the latter’s military expansion. This, under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) which already previously gave the U.S. access to five sites to be used as bases.

Filipinos are rejoicing over the Post report, amused at the idea that their former Uncle Sam is finally walking on his knees to try to get concessions he needs to maintain powerful influence in the Asia Pacific region.

16 Filipinos Arrested In New York!

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Some 16 Filipinos were arrested in New York on Sunday.

The group was protesting the state visit to the U.S. of Philippine President Bongbong Marcos, chanting “Marcos is not welcome here.”

A few minutes into their mass action in front of the U.S. Consulate on 5th Avenue, they were swarmed by law enforcement officers, handcuffed and loaded into several vans.

No, they were not arrested for the peaceful protest. They were taken in by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) because none of them could show U.S. citizenship papers or green cards. Not even tourist visas.

They were all TNTs (Tago ng Tago), the Filipino colloquial term for undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

The Adobo Chronicles learned that the 16 will be deported to the Philippines and will be on the same plane as Marcos when he concludes his U.S. state visit.

King Charles Very Sad That Raissa Robles Will Not Watch His Coronation.

LONDON, The United Kingdom (The Adobo Chronicles, London Bureau) – It is a rare display of pomp and royalty — a historic event that people around the world are looking forward to — the coronation of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla.

But one very important person — self-proclaimed investigative journalist and failed book author Raissa Robles has announced on her Twitter page that she is NOT watching the coronation live, adding that the King doesn’t deserve to be the head of the Church of England.

The news reached Buckingham Palace and immediately, the King and Queen Consort issued a statement through the Philippine Embassy in London that they are saddened by the personal choice of Robles.

In the Philippines, the Movement for Media Reform (MMR) had a different view. It responded to Robles’ tweet, saying that “it wouldn’t make the slightest dent” if she didn’t watch the coronation.
