Unexpected Shift: Philippines Now Holds Power Over The U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) How the world turns! The most powerful country in the world and once colonizer of a tiny archipelago in Asia is now head over heels when it comes to a third-world country, the Philippines.

Take it from The Washington Post. It is reporting that U.S. President Joe Biden is now “courting” the son of a “dictator he once opposed.”

That son, of course, is President Bongbong Marcos who is now in the U.S. for a state visit no other Philippine leader has undertaken in over a decade.

Clearly, the Post knows the reason behind the courtship: strategic staging ground for the U.S. military amid the escalating territorial dispute between China and other countries in Asia, including the Philippines.

Recently, Marcos, Jr. added four sites in his country to be used by America as part of the latter’s military expansion. This, under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) which already previously gave the U.S. access to five sites to be used as bases.

Filipinos are rejoicing over the Post report, amused at the idea that their former Uncle Sam is finally walking on his knees to try to get concessions he needs to maintain powerful influence in the Asia Pacific region.

Philippine President Bongbong Marcos ‘Reconsidering’ EDCA!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – EDCA, the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement, added four additional sites in the Philippines that the U.S. military can use to defend this Southeast Asian country if attacked by external forces.

President Bongbong Marcos approved the new sites.

But Marcos is reportedly reconsidering the entire EDCA after, in his presence, the U.S. military fired rockets and missed its target in the South China Sea not once, not twice, but six times!

Malacañang told The Adobo Chronicles that EDCA will be futile if the U.S. military can’t even hit targets during exercises. “ How much more during an actual attack on our country,” the palace said.

Senator Robin Padilla Proposes New K to 16 to Replace K to 12!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine Congress seems bent on overhauling the country’s education system to make Filipinos more competitive in the international academic and professional arena.

Just days after Representative and former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo proposed a new K+10 +2, Senator Robin Padilla filed his own bill in the Upper Chamber.

Padilla’s bill proposes to replace the existing K to 12, with K to 16. He says there is nothing new about his proposal. It just makes clearer the number of years Filipinos spend in school from their Kindergarten years till graduation from the university.

K to 16 is inclusive of Kindergarten, 6 years in elementary, 4 years in junior high, 2 years in senior high and 4 years in college. Padilla said the K to 12 program has been discriminatory of college students because it left them out of the equation.
