Huge Anti-Duterte Protest On Christmas Day In Manila

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines might see the biggest protest yet since President Rodrigo Duterte took office on June 30 this year.

The Christmas day rally to be held at the Luneta Park (Rizal Park) will dwarf previous anti-Duterte rallies, including those that protested the burial of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (National Heroes Cemetery).

Organizers of the all-day Christmas day event told The Adobo Chronicles that they will protest recent announcements by the Duterte administration such as free medicines and free hospitalization for poor Filipinos, free irrigation for farmers, as  well as free tuition at state colleges and universities.

“No past president of the Philippines has ever attempted to implement these atrocious policies,” the protest leaders said, “and we won’t allow a former mayor of a city in Mindanao to use our taxpayer money to benefit millions of Filipinos.  It’s just not right.”

Retired entertainers Leah Navarro, Cynthia Patag and Jim Paredes are the co-chairs of the Christmas day protest.  Blogger Raissa Robles has been designated as the official spokesperson of the group. The event will be covered live by GMA-7, ABS-CBN, the Inquirer and CNN International.

So if you’re not doing anything on Christmas day, we suggest you make a leisurely trip to Luneta.

Philippines VP Leni Robredo Asks Lawmakers To Pass Federalism As Quickly As Possible

IIMG_7637.JPGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippines Vice President Leni Robredo today appealed to lawmakers to pass federalism into law as quickly as possible.

Robredo issued the appeal soon after President Rodrigo Duterte said that if federalism becomes law, he will step down and let others take over. “Federalism is the only solution. If by 2018, it’s done, I give you my word, I will step down as President,” he said in a televised press conference in Davao City after he arrived from Singapore.

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Robredo said that this is her greatest if not only chance to become president.  “If Duterte steps down in 2018, then by law, I will become president, and be president for four years,” Robredo said.

“Then, after four years, I can run again for president in 2022 and have another six years.”

So, what has changed for this lady who was a very hesitant candidate for vice president in 2016?

We didn’t ask her that question.

Philippines President Duterte Admits To Being A Psychopath

img_6903SINGAPORE (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte’s  recent ‘admission’ that he personally killed drug addicts when he was mayor of Davao City has made headlines around the world.  And there is no stopping him from more admissions.

Today, the rogue president admitted to reporters in Singapore that he, indeed, is a psychopath as claimed by his critics and opponents.

But in explaining Duterte’s statement, Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Group said that what the president was trying to say was that he was psychologically sound to pursue a path of peace, progress and prosperity for the Philippines and the Filipino people.
