Senators Kiko Pangilinan And Risa Hontiveros File Bill To Abolish 13th Month Pay

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – When you get your 13th month pay this December, don’t spend it all for your Christmas shopping.  This could be your last.

Opposition Senators Kiko Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros have co-sponsored a bill that would abolish the 13th month pay beginning next year.

Many will recall that the law requiring employers to pay their employees a 13th month pay equivalent to their monthly salary was a brainchild of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Hontiveros told The Adobo Chronicles that the rationale behind their bill is to correct Philippine history and to nullify as many proclamations and executive orders issued by the late dictator.  She and Pangilinan believe that many of the laws passed under the Marcos regime were  unconstitutional.

Other Opposition Senators like Antonio Trillanes, Franklin Drilon, Bambam Aquino and Leila De Lima have indicated that they will support and endorse the new bill.

Philippine Government To Outsource Lawmaking

F1D4C0A4-4826-4906-8EEC-6B0B4647BE4BMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In the near future, rice, the staple of Filipinos will be fully outsourced, thanks to a proposed bill in Congress that strips the National Food Authority of its monitoring, distribution and importation of the commodity.  The bill opens up rice importation to anyone in the private sector.  In effect, rice supply and prices will be fully controlled by private entrepreneurs.

Now, there is a growing clamor among the rice-eating Filipinos to outsource lawmaking in the Philippines, and the Duterte government is very receptive to the idea.

The clamor stems from frustration among Filipinos regarding their do-nothing Congress. Billions of pesos are spent on elections and billions more are spent to pay for salaries of lawmakers and their staff. Yet all that comes out of the legislature seem to be endless and fruitless hearings.  The Filipinos have had enough.

Bidding for the lawmaking outsourcing is set for early 2019.  It wasn’t clear how this would affect the May, 2019 national and local elections.

Duterte Admits: I Am Tuta Ng Kano

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – After all his past rhetoric against Uncle Sam, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte today admitted that he is, after all, still a “tuta ng Kano” (American puppet).

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Duterte made this admission after he approved the purchase of 16 Black Hawk helicopters from the Sikorsky Aircraft Corp — an American company — for $240 million.

Earlier, it was announced that the Philippines was considering buying helicopters from Russia.

But because of U.S. sanctions on Russian military exports, that Russian purchase was shelved.

”I have no choice,” Duterte reportedly said, “if I purchased the helicopters from Russia, my country would also face sanctions from Donald Trump.  I’d rather be called an American puppet rather than face the wrath of Uncle Sam.”

Duterte’s admission gives his critics yet another reason to criticize his administration.
