Donald Trump’s 3 a.m. Call to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – World leaders are known to call each other at 3 a.m. (more or less, Western time) to consult on both international and domestic issues.

The Adobo Chronicles has learned that U.S. President Donald Trump called Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte at 3 a.m. on Saturday (2 p.m. Friday, U.S. West Coast time) and we were able to obtain a transcript of the call:

Trump: Mr. President, I’m sure you’ve already heard I’ve been impeached by the House of Representatives.

Duterte: Impeached but not convicted. I’m a lawyer you know.

Trump: You’re absolutely right. How have you avoided being impeached by your own Congress despite all the rumors from CNN, New York Times and Time Magazine about your  EJK policies?

Duterte: I control them you know. Besides, where are you getting all these rumors?

Trump: From your own Philippine media, like Rappler, whose CEO Maria Ressa has been honored many times by Time.

Duterte: And you believe Time?

Trump: No way, it’s fake news, like CNN. Why don’t you  lock up that Ressa.

Duterte: Uhm, she’s a U.S. citizen.

Trump: Oh okay. I’ll have her arrested  the next time she comes to the U.S.

Duterte: She owes us taxes.

Trump: Noted. I’ll freeze all her U.S. bank accounts.

(End of call. Duterte’s mobile phone went on low batt.)

Dream Conspiracy: Republican Senators Move To Disqualify Donald Trump From Reelection

DONALD TRUMP has been impeached by the  Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives.

It doesn’t mean much other than being seen as the shaming of a President.  He remains in the White House unless he is removed from office and prevented from holding Federal positions through a conviction by the Senate.

But a Senate conviction is unlikely.  It takes 67 votes — or 2/3 of the Senate membership — to convict.  There are 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats and 2 Independents in the current Senate.  Assuming all Democrats and the 2 Independents vote to convict,  the Upper Hose will still need 20 votes from the Republicans.  Given the partisanship nature of American politics, a. Trump conviction is a lost cause.

UNLESS…

… the Senate Republicans break away  from Trump and rally behind someone else to run for President in 2020.

How is this possible?

The U.S. Constitution is clear about the qualifications to become President:

In other words, if Trump were convicted in the impeachment case and the Senate, by a simple majority, votes to forever disqualify him from office Federal office, it would leave the Republican Presidential ticket in 2020 open.

Sure, this is our DREAM conspiracy, but with apologies to the Man of La Mancha, there is no such thing as “The Impossible Dream.”

So let’s all dream on…

Philippines’ VP Robredo Confident Impeached President Trump Will Be Convicted

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippines’ Vice President Leni Robredo has chimed in on today’s impeachment of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump was impeached today by the U.S. House of Representatives on two articles of impeachment, including for abuse of power.

The impeachment now moves on to the Senate which will decide to either convict or acquit the President.

Robredo told The Adobo Chronicles  she is very confident that Trump will be convicted.

It would take 2/3 of the the Senate — that’s 67 of  its 100 members —to convict Trump.

Robredo said it would be very easy to obtain that required number. “All that’s needed is for at least 6 Republicans and 7 Democrats to reach that 67 threshold,” she noted.
