A Nobel Peace Prize Nomination For Leni Robredo

OSLO, Norway (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – In 2020, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the World Food Programme (WFP) “for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.”

Who will receive the prestigious prize in 2021?

The Philippines could very well score its first Nobel Peace Prize ever this year, if the Nobel Selection Committee decides to reprise its recognition that combatting hunger is an all-important road to peace and prosperity.

Vice President Leni Robredo has been nominated for the prize this year, thanks to her advocacy on behalf of the poor and hungry. The nomination highlighted her most recent efforts to distribute spaghetti to the less fortunate of her countrymen.

“Her spaghetti distribution shows the that little acts, no matter how they are seen as propaganda and photo ops by her critics, can go a long way to achieve world peace,” the nominated stated.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – What was supposed to be a routine photo op for the Office of the Vice President (OVP) is turning out into a nightmare for Leni Robredo.

Last week, the OVP distributed servings of cooked spaghetti to needy families in San Mateo, Rizal province. Robredo herself posted the photos of the event which she says was part of her ‘Angat Buhay’ progam (Life Upliftment).

But alas, OVP PR handlers overlooked one very important thing: food safety. There are existing health regulations and guidelines to ensure that feeding programs and food distribution operations would not be a threat to the safety of recipients.

Photos posted by Robredo showed a masked person with a black hood, face mask, face shield and gloves handing servings of spaghetti — sans proper packing and similar precautions for possible food contamination. Rather, the servings were handed out in what appeared to be the recipients’ own plates and containers. Where the spaghetti was contained in the first place wasn’t clear from the photos. Some netizens speculated the food was placed in huge steel drums. Others suspect OVP staff had the spaghetti in big , open calderos exposed to heat and other natural elements.

The Department of Health (DOH) will conduct an investigation on Monday to determine whether OVP committed food safety regulations and unduly put the health of the recipients in grave danger.

This is a developing story.

Did OVP Run Out Of Take-Out Boxes For Its Food Relief?

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – The Office of Vice President Leni Robredo has all but perfected the art of photo ops to promote its programs and initiatives, but it may have shot itself in the foot when it posted photos of its recent food distribution in San Mateo, Rizal.

Robredo proudly posted photos of OVP’s relief program, distributing spaghetti to needing families.

But alas, netizens noticed that the spaghetti wasn’t even contained in take-out boxes, you know, like those you get when you order from Jollibee.

Many were also concerned that OVP’s distribution of cooked food may have violated sanitation and safety regulations by the Department of Health. “What if in the course of the day of distribution, some of the spaghetti may have already been spoiled,” one netizen asked.

Since it was merely for photo ops, it could have made more sense for OVP to distribute a bag of (uncooked) rice and a few canned food to the recipient families.

A total fail.
