EARLY FAVORITES TO WIN MISS WORLD PHILIPPINES 2015

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Twenty-seven candidates of Miss World Philippines 2015 were presented to members of the press at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Pasay City on Tuesday.

The winner of this year’s pageant will represent the country in the Miss World 2015 pageant to be held in Sanya, China.

Already, four contestants have emerged as early favorites to win the crown: Ma. Vanessa Wright, Jessica Rose Mc Ewen, Mia Allyson Howell and Janette Roanne Strum.

Notice that their surnames all suggest some mixed ethnicity.

Apparently, contestants gain extra points by having foreign-sounding surnames. After all, last year’s title holder was Valerie Weigmann who was preceded, of course, by the very first Filipina Miss World, Megan Young.

“This batch, they’re ready for the competition,” said Cory Quirino, national director of Miss World Philippines. “This batch is a representative of the Filipina from north to south, literally.”

And might we add, the “four corners of the globe!”

DONALD TRUMP: “I’M BETTER LOOKING THAN CARLY FIORINA!”

Capture NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Donald Trump is done trashing Mexicans and the Chinese. He’s turning now to his opponents for the Republican presidential nomination.

First, Trump criticized former Florida Governor Jeb Bush for speaking Spanish during one of the latter’s campaign appearances. He has also questioned Ben Carson’s Christian faith.

Now, the real estate mogul is turning up the heat on the lone woman Republican candidate Carly Fiorina.

It wasn’t about Fiorina’s record as CEO, or her failed 2010 senatorial candidacy in California. It was about her looks.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Trump offered a free-wheeling critique of the former Hewlett-Packard CEO.

“Look at that face!” he said at a conference table with his staff as Ms. Fiorina took a question about him on television. “Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!”

In a follow up off-the-record comment, Trump told Rolling Stone : “I am far better looking than that woman, my hair notwithstanding.”

Speaking of hair, many will recall that in 2010, while waiting for her interview with CNN affiliate KXTV (and unaware that the camera was rolling), Fiorina delivered the following iconic sentence while typing away on her Blackberry mobile device: “‘God what is that hair?’ So yesterday!” She was, of course, talking about Barbara Boxer.

So, could it be that Trump’s comment about Fiorina is simply karma?

BINIBINING PILIPINAS CHARITIES CAN’T DECIDE ON MISS PHILIPINES PIA WURTZBACH’S NATIONAL COSTUME FOR MISS UNIVERSE

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles®) – Previously, we reported that the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) — the local franchise for the Miss Universe Pageant — has chosen the national costume that reigning Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach will wear at the upcoming international pageant.

Well, it turns out, that wasn’t the final decision.

The Adobo Chronicles® just learned that BPCI has chosen three designs and it can’t decide which one would give Wurtzbach the best crack at the Best in National Costume award, and hopefully the title of Miss Universe.

The three designs — all by Mak Tumang, a young designer from Mexico, Pampanga — are based on the traditional Filipino terno, considered the national dress for women featuring the familiar butterfly sleeves.

So, BPCI has sought the help of The Adobo Chronicles® and its followers to decide on the final gown for Ms. Wurtzbach.
