POPE FRANCIS POLITELY REFUSES TO ACCEPT GIFT PAINTING WITH FILIPINO CELEBRITIES

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – An oil painting depicting Pope Francis  awaits the pontiff when he arrives in the Philippines this week. It is a gift from Filipino artist Dante Hipolito who was commissioned by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines to do the  artwork as a way to welcome the visiting head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Titled ‘Salubong’ (to greet or meet), it shows the Pope in the midst of Filipino farm workers and laborers after a day’s harvest in a rural agricultural field.

But there is a problem.

The ‘ordinary’ people featured in the painting are not ordinary people. They are celebrities from the movie and political world. They include movie stars Vilma Santos, newly-wed Marian Rivera and DingDong Dantes, Coco Martin, Gary Valenciano and presidential sister Kris Aquino. Also included in the painting is Senator Grace Poe.

In refusing to accept the gift, Pope Francis said that while he greatly appreciates the gesture, he would rather be painted or photographed with real ordinary people, like the victims and families of last year’s typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). “The main reason for my visit to the Philippines is to be in the midst of these unfortunate Filipinos,” said Francis who is scheduled to meet with the typhoon victims in Tacloban City, one of the hardest hit areas of the devastating typhoon.

So what’s going to happen with the prized painting?

The Adobo Chronicles learned that it will be displayed at the rotunda of the Batangas provincial capitol in Batangas City, south of the Philippines’ capital. Santos, who is prominently featured in the painting, happens to be the elected governor of Batangas province. She is one of many Filipino movie stars who have chosen to pursue a political career.

(VIDEO) PHILIPPINE PRISON INMATE’S MUSIC VIDEO NOW NO. 1 IN MUSIC CHARTS

Mandaluyong, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It shocked the entire nation this week when government officials led by Philippines Justice Secretary Leila de Lima raided what we now know as VIP (Very Important Prisoner) jail cells at the National Penitentiary (New Bilibid Prison).

As reported earlier by The Adobo Chronicles, the raid discovered luxury jail cells occupied by some 19 convicted felons.  The cells included saunas, jacuzzis, sleep number beds, carpeting, airconditioning, disco lights, high-end electronics, even a life-sized inflatable sex toy. Also discovered were a stash of cash, jewelry and illegal drugs.

There’s more. One of the VIP cells had a recording studio, complete with a stage and equipment for recording music videos.

Enter Herbert Colangco, the inmate occupying the jail cell with the recording studio. He is serving jail sentence for bank robbery. It appears that he has, in fact, recorded a music video inside the VIP jail cell  — an original Tagalog song, Pa’no Yon. And boy, isn’t he good!

The music video recording had earlier been uploaded to YouTube, but few ever noticed or viewed it. But now that the VIP jail cells are in the headlines, the music video has resurfaced and in just 24 hours has become the No. 1 hit in the country. Many Filipino recording artists are very nervous and recording studios are competing to sign him up for recording contracts.

Television host and presidential sister Kris Aquino is desperately trying to book an exclusive interview with Colangco.  She needs the interview to help boost her show’s sagging rating.

MADAM AURING PREDICTS: NO INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY CROWNS FOR THE PHILIPPINES THIS YEAR OR NEXT

Miss India is this year's Miss Supranational.
Miss India is this year’s Miss Supranational.

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The past year, the Philippines laid claim to three International Beauty Pageant crowns: Miss World Megan Young, Miss International Bea Santiago and Miss Supranational Johanna Datul. Not to mention Miss Universe 3rd Runner-up Ariella Arida.

So the pressure is on for this year’s Philippines’ representatives to keep the crowns.

Unfortunately, the country’s foremost fortune teller (and actress) Madam Auring (born Aurea Sabalboro in Sampaloc, Manila) has predicted that the Philippines will not win any international beauty crown this year.

And her predictions are starting to come to fruition.

So far this year, the Philippines failed to win Miss International, Miss Supranational and Miss Intercontinental. And things are not looking good for the Philippines’ representatives to Miss World and Miss Universe.

Perhaps, Manny Pacquiao’s mom, Dionisia, can do her little voodoo routine (like she does each time her son has a championship boxing fight) to turn the tide for Miss World in London this December and Miss Universe in Florida in January and keep the hope alive for Miss Philippines?
