HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Hollywood Bureau) – Hollywood actors and other celebrities are painting a nail on one finger as a way of expressing solidarity with victims of crime, violence or misfortune.
The Adobo Chronicles also noticed a similar trend in the Philippines, especially among gay men, so we sent out our investigative reporters to conduct random interviews among Filipino men with painted nails on a single finger.
It turns out the Philippine phenomenon is happening for a different reason: the retail price of nail polish remover has tremendously increased and many could no longer afford them. Men just leave their painted nails alone until the polish naturally fades on its own.
Moral of the story: Filipinos are trend setters or are quick to follow international trends, except in the case of painted nails.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau)- Republic Act No. 2956, signed into law in 2004, declares August 21 of every year as “Ninoy Aquino Day.” It is a non-working NATIONAL holiday.
September 11 marks the birth anniversary of the late Ferdinand E. Marcos. This year, his son President Bongbong Marcos declared it as a non-working holiday in ILOCOS NORTE.
The Adobo Chronicles is conducting a poll among its Filipino and Filipino American readers on the question:
Should September 11 be permanently declared a national non-working holiday, and August 21 be instead designated as a non-working holiday ONLY in Tarlac province, hometown of Aquino?
LOS ANGELES, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Los Angeles Bureau) – Los Angeles-based vlogger Bb. Maharlika, a.k.a. Claire Eden Contreras, knows she is in deep legal trouble. Anthony Taberna, more popularly known as Ka Tunying has filed a cyber libel case against her and a warrant of arrest has reportedly already been issued.
Upon advice of her pro-bono legal counsel, Contreras has renamed herself in her Bodjak TV. Henceforth, she will be known as “Maharluka.”
The Adobo Chronicles reached out to her legal counsel who revealed that it was their defense strategy to portray Contreras as mentally-incompetent during the trial. Initially, they will enter a plea of not guilty on the grounds of insanity.
Brilliant thinking by Contreras’ lawyers. Or maybe, they are just speaking the truth!
“Luka” as in “luka-luka” is a Tagalog word that means “crazy.”
