MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Shortly after Rod Duterte announced there will be no joint inauguration with VP-elect Leni Robredo, singer and Yellow spokesperson Jim Paredes went on a tirade on his social media account to criticize the president-elect.

Duterte had announced that his June 30 presidential inaugruration will be held at the Rizal Hall in Malacañang and that only 500 people will be invited and served appetizers of maruya (banana fritters) and buko (coconut) juice.

Robredo, on the other hand, said that she respects Duterte’s decision and will have her own simple inauguration in Metro Manila.

Paredes urged his sprinkling of fans to boycott the Duterte inauguration and to celebrate with Robredo instead.image

Reacting to Paredes’ comment, the Duterte camp told The Adobo Chronicles, “how can he (Paredes) boycott the presidential inauguration when he is not even invited to attend?”

Meanwhile, Paredes’ call for a boycott gained one supporter, fellow Yellow spokesperson singer/actress Cynthia Patag.

BREAKING: Comelec Extends Deadline To File Certificate Of Candidacy For 2016 Philippine Elections

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – There will be no inauguration of President-elect Rod Duterte or VP-elect Leni Robredo on June 30, thanks to the Philippines’ Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In an en banc resolution, Comelec voted 4 to 7 to extend the deadline for the filing of candidacy for the 2016 presidential elections.   The decision all but voids the results of the May elections, and paves the way for  a repeat election still to be scheduled.

Those who voted for the extension were Commissioners Rowena Guanzon, Sherrif Abas, Al Pareño and Arthur Lim.  Voting against were Chairman Andy Bautista, Luie Guia and Christan Lim.

Earlier, a separate motion by the Liberal Party was filed before Comelec seeking to extend the deadline for the filing of SOCE (Statement of Campaign Expenditures) in the May elections.  LP presidential candidate Mar Roxas and others failed to meet the June 8 deadline which is a violation of Comelec rules.  The failure to file SOCE would have disqualified the winning candidates from assuming their respective elective positions.

But rather than deal with the controversy of deciding to extend (or not extend) the SOCE filing deadline, the Comelec opted to extend the deadline for the filing of candidacy for the 2016 elections.

It’s more fun in the Philippines.

Duterte And Robredo Reveal Their (Separate) Inauguration Menu

Maruya, left, and laing

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s confirmed: President-elect Rod Duterte and Vice President-elect Leni Robredo will be inaugurated separately on June 30.

Duterte will have his inauguration at the Rizal Ceremonial Hall of Malacañang (the presidential palace in Manila). Robredo, on the other hand,  will hold her inauguration ceremony somwhere in Metro Manila but the incoming vice president wishes to be sworn in by Ronaldo Coner, captain of the “smallest, farthest and poorest” barangay Punta Tarawal Calabanga in Camarines Sur.

Duterte’s camp earlier said the president-elect will hold his inauguration rites at Malacañang to avoid lavish preparations and save expenses. The Davao City mayor will only deliver a five-minute speech after he takes his oath. Guests will be served finger food.

Duterte’s transition team has confirmed that the 500 or so guests at his inauguration will be served maruya (banana fritters) and buko (coconut) juice.

Not to be outdone, Robredo — in keeping with her promised austerity measures — will serve laing, a signature delicacy in her region of Bicol.  It is a spicy vegetable dish comprised of taro leaves cooked in coconut milk.

Both inaugurations are a sharp deviation from tradition where the venue has always been at the Quirino grandstand at Rizal (Luneta) Park, attended by hundreds of thousands of Filipinos.
