New Movement Launched

IMG_4928.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A new group called ‘Tindig Pilipinas’ was launched at Club Filipino in San Juan on Monday.

Senators and congressmen from the minority bloc led by Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, and Sen. Francis Pangilinan were present at the launch.

President Rodrigo Duterte made a surprise appearance to the delight of the attendees.

The group will organize a rally to celebrate the anniversary of  the declaration by the late Ferdinand E. Marcos of  Martial Law on September 21.

The new movement also pledged full support for the government’s war on drugs, acknowledging that the Philippines cannot rise (tindig) unless the country’s illegal drug trade is permanently addressed.

See, there are things that both the Dutertards and Yellows can agree on. It’s a matter of political will.

September 21 Luneta Rally Cancelled!

IMG_4920.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Despite the offer of Malacañang to provide free umbrellas to all who will participate in the September 21 protest rally organized by the Movement Against Tyrrany (MAD), the organizers decided to cancel the event altogether.

PAGASA wasn’t on the side of the rallyists as it forecast a 100% chance of thunderstorm on Thursday, especially in the Luneta area.

The event cancellation was reflected in the giant billboard listing the Luneta (Rizal Park) events for September.

Well, better luck with the weather, next time!

Churches To Play Handel’s ‘Halleluja’ In Lieu Of Tolling Of Bells

IMG_4913.JPGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was just days ago when Catholic Churches across the country were urged by the bishops to toll their bells each night as a reminder of those who have been killed under the government’s war on drugs.  Many believed it was the Church’s subtle way of criticizing President Rodrigo Duterte.

Now, the Catholic Church is singing a different tune — literally.

It has rescinded its order to parishes to ring their bells.  Instead, George Friderick Handel’s ‘Halleluja‘ will be played each night over church sound systems in celebration of the government rescue of Marawi priest Fr. Chito Soganub.

Fr. Soganub was among those who were held hostage by the Maute rebels in their continuing siege of Marawi City.

See, the Catholic Church can be pro-Duterte if it wants to.
