Rappler, Vera Files Not Happy About Latest Facebook Annoucement

A08B16AC-1615-49A8-9FC4-946AC367B525MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Subject to fact-checking by Rappler and Vera Files – They were in Cloud 9, floating in their new-found power to be the Internet Police for news and information on the Facebook platform.  But now, Rappler and Vera Files are very unhappy about a new announcement by the social networking giant.

The Philippine Star is reporting that Facebook is open to more fact checkers in the Philippines.

That didn’t sit well with Maria Ressa and Ellen Tordesillas.

In a joint statement released to The Adobo Chronicles, both women said that Facebook’s new plan diminishes Rappler’s and Vera Files’ exclusive power and authority to control free speech on the Internet.

”Is Facebook saying that we are not qualified and competent enoughy to be fact-checkers that it has to designate other companies and individuals?”

So far, only three people have praised the Facebook partnership with Rappler and Vera Files: Ressa, Tordesillas and Senator Bam Aquino.

(VIDEO) Attention Mark Zuckerberg: This is Your Partner In Fact-Checking

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – If only Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg understood the Filipino language, we’re sure he’d be squirming in his seat when he sees this video of Vera Files’ Ellen Tordesillas when a television talk show host asked her to define fake news.  Facebook recently partnered with Vera Files, along with Rappler, to fact-check news and information on social media in the Philippines.

We’ll let the video speak for itself, so we could spare Rappler and Vera Files wasted time in fact-checking us.

But for the sake of Zuckerberg, here’s the gist of the exchange between the TV host and Tordesillas:

Host: Can you give me a working definition of ‘fake news?’

Tordesillas:  ah, uhmmm, ah, wait lang, ah, uhmmm, okay #$%*@xyz*#$$$$$$$$$$$$$,ugh, paksyet!

Leni Robredo Apologizes For Being Vice President

84E73CE5-3999-4F97-AB3A-58DB0D547B79MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – GMA News is reporting that Vice President Leni Robredo has apologized for the viral photo showing her and other politicians posing before the camera — with all smiles — at the otherwise solemn and somber Holocaust Memorial in Berlin, Germany.

The photo, first posted by Ifugao Congressman Ted Baguilat Jr., was met with widespread criticism for the insensitivity to the historical significanc of the Memorial.

But apparently, GMA News misquoted Robredo.  What she actually said was that she was apologizing for being Vice President.

Apology accepted.
