Adobo Chronicles Fact Checks Leni Robredo’s Washington, D.C. Statement

744EBB6E-52B1-4FEA-95F7-2D002C6D5EAACLAIM: In a response to question about Marawi, during Leni Robredo’s appearance at a forum sponsored by the Center for Stretegic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., she stated that her office (Office of the Vice President) “has been there during the first day of the siege,” setting up “relief operation.”

FACT: What proof do we need that Robredo’s statement was an outright lie?  How could her office be there on the first day of the siege?  Did she have advanced information that the siege was going to happen that day?  Was her office already IN Marawi when the siege happened? How can her office set up relief operation on the first day of the siege when no one even knew if there would be casualties, injuries or citizens displaced who would need help?  Whose crystal ball did OVP use?

We found this news report where Robredo “ordered’ her staff to “start” relief operations for Marawi siege victims.  It was dated May 24, a day AFTER the start of the siege.  But we can’t imagine that the OVP,  which does not have resources or local staff to deal with situations like this, was able to set up the relief operations within hours or days.  It would take weeks before it could organize the operation and gather relief goods or set up relief services.

De La Salle, Ateneo Simultaneously Launch Intramurals On Senatorial Race

43A3FF29-8801-4B08-AF70-538D905ACC75MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Arch rivals Ateneo and De La Salle Universities are at it again, re-fueling a feud that has spanned decades.  This time it’s about politics.

On this, the last day for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy for the 2019 Philippine national and local elections, the two elite educational institutions have simultaneously launched media campaigns making clear their choice for Senator.

De La Salle launched its “Lasallians Against Bam Aquino,” while the Ateneans fired off with their “Ateneans against Chel Diokno.”  Aquino and Diokno have both filed their COC for Senator.

Aquino is an alumnus of Ateneo while Diokno is the founding Dean of the De La Salle College of Law.

It seems there can only be one room for an elitist Senator, and only one elite school can reign supreme.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Worried that she  could lose the Vice Presidential seat as a result of the electoral protest filed by Bongbong Marcos, Leni Robredo filed a Certificate of Candidacy for the 2019 Senatorial Elections.

Because she is currently in the United States for a speaking engagement at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Robredo filed her COC at the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Tomorrow, October 17 is the last day for the filing of COCs with the Commission on Elections.

Speaking with The Adobo Chronicles, Robredo said that her decision to file the COC was in accordance with her commitment to serve the Filipino people, especially those in the laylayan. “If the VP position is taken away from me, I would like to have the option to continue as a passionate, dedicated and hard-working public servant, by being a Philippine Senator,” she said.

Robredo had earlier announced that she would unite and lead the Opposition against President Rodrigo Duterte, but many of her colleagues have been filing their COCs as Independents. It has been rumored that even her defeated runningmate, then presidential candidate Mar Roxas, would be filing his candidacy for Senator as an Independent.

“It’s disappointing, but I respect their decision,” Robredo said.
