Frigate: Senator Trillanes Wants Warrant Of Arrest Issued Against Former SAP Bong Go

CAA6D63B-AE37-4501-9C24-26D44A1CBCA5MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Now that President Rodrigo Duterte has publicly admitted that he personally acted on the complaint of South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) regarding the Philippine Navy’s multibillion-peso frigate system deal, Senator Antonio Trillanes wants the Senate to issue a warrant of arrest for former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go.

Go was accused of intervening in the deal on behalf of another supplier that he allegedly favored.

During  a previous Senate Hearing on the Frigate deal, Go, along with other Duterte adminsitration officials, personally appeared to deny the allegations.

”What he did was clearly in contempt of the Senate,” Trillanes said.  “One does not lie before the Senate after taking the oath to tell the truth and nothing but the truth.”

The Adobo Chronicles asked Trillanes where in the Senate Go should be detained.  “In my office, of course,” he responded.

Well, in the event Trillanes once again seeks refuge inside the Senate Building to avoid a possible warrant of arrest for him from Branch 148 of the Makati Regional Trial Court, then he would have a roommate.

Of Watergate And Frigate

A3DF237B-1131-45B3-9ADE-9F684321A764.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said he personally acted on the complaint of South Korean firm Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) regarding the Philippine Navy’s multibillion-peso frigate system deal.

Duterte said he gave the letter to his top aide Bong Go and asked him to “give it to legal.” Lawyers, in turn, referred the letter to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

Go has been accused of intervening in the selection of the combat management system (CMS) for the two HHI-built frigates of the Philippine Navy.  This was earlier denied by Malacañang and Lorenzana.

Go allegedly favored another South Korean firm, Hanwha Systems, to provide the CMS for the warships.

Well, after this admission by President Duterte, expect the issue to be the subject of a scandal investigation.  Like Watergate involving former U.S. President Richard Nixon. Except that there would be no need to give a name to the multibillion-peso scandal.  It speaks for itself: Frigate.

League Of City Mayors Launch Campaign To Defeat Senatorial Candidate Florin Hilbay

AD7D2113-7F09-40A3-A01A-502E1C62969F.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Be careful what you say because it could always come back to haunt you.

Such is the fate of Florin Hilbay, the Solicitor General during the administration of President NoyNoy Aquino.

Last week, he filed his Certificate of Candidacy for the 2019 Senatorial elections.

But alas, the campaign period has not even officially started but the mayors belonging to the League of Cities of the Philippines have already launched a campaign to make sure Hilbay loses in the election.

Many will recall that sometime last year, in criticizing President Rodrigo Duterte, Hilbay all but insulted the country’s city mayors, saying that “mayors are not really trained…at the level of international politics.”

Well, it looks like international politics is not the issue here.  Hilbay faces a huge challenge in local politics in his bid to be a national legislator.

Moral of the story: don’t mess with city mayors!
